After she had her first knee replacement sugary she can't sleep now she is just recovering for having the other knee done and she tells me her sleeping is worse. I asked her how her last labs looked for her thyroid and she said the other Dr. told her it's fine. I asked to see the copy of her labs and all they tested was TSH SOB I look high and low for her Dr. now he passed her over to this other female Dr. and all this Dr. has been doing is testing TSH and adjusting her meds by this. My wife thinks what I do on the forums is playing Dr. I wish so she keeps her health problems to her self. I got so dam mad last night I had to stress dose my HC. She knows you can't treat Thyroid by TSH she hears me say this all the time. I told her we need to find a new Dr. she told me to mind my own problems. After talking with her because I am not minding my own heath problems. I asked her whey she did not take the labs I gave her to test her hormones so she could try Natural Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy much like whats in this link. http://www.power-surge.com/educate/yourhormones.htm She told me she talked to the Dr. about this and was told my BCBS would not pay for them labs the cost would be over $3,000,00 and my BCBS would not pay for the Hormones. I think my wife does this to Piss me off she knows I get labs for hormones every 8 weeks and I am on Bio Hormones even Growth Hormone. And my BCBS covers it so I asked her why she did not tell the Dam Dr. it's covered do the labs she told me mind my own ****ing business. We know that is not the case, and I have changed docs several times over the years myself. When I can tell they have that attitude of not being questioned, or challenged,....I know they are not for me. Hope things get better for you, and your wife. I used to get frustrated because I have b-i-ls taking statins, anti-depressants, and BP meds, mother taking Synthroid, s-i-ls both pushing 200 lbs, m-i-l doing polypharmacy, son consuming junk, etc. I learned I can only be responsible for my own health, and my husband's. You can't make anyone do anything they don't want to, even if it's in their best interest. My Mom has also told me I shouldn't be playing doctor, it's dangerous. (I used to be a moderator on the thyroid/adrenal forum). But what docs do (prescribe toxic meds) and don't do (give you bioidentical hormones) is equally damaging to your health, so I prefer to figure this out myself. You should be proud of what you do here. The information from others with the same condition is invaluable. Thank you for what you do. I told her if I could not sleep and tried all the junk she tried I would be flying out to see Dr. nco in LA Ca. He posted back to me 5 yrs ago when this first started and told me sometimes when your put under for sugary this can happen. He sounded like he knew all about testing and treating this. I told my Wife Knee Dr. that the last time he did sugary on her after this she can't sleep. He said he's heard of this happening but can't help. Guest guest Posted May 23, 2010 Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 Phil, I don't mean to scare you, but something just occurred to me. My sister had both knees done when she was in her mid-50s. She got so depressed from the rehab, the pain, her general attitude and health that she committed suicide. She was so depsondent and so sick and tired of the pain and rehab that she gave up. This was when she was rehabing with the second knee. Maybe your wife really needs you more than ever. Be persistent always. I have to remind her we got to where we are in life because I was an Engineer. But it's the lack of sleep talking and I know this but still it gets old. Part of her problem is her doctor sucks but my wife is too lazy to find a better one. She says she's always cold, has problems losing weight, fatiqued etc. Thyroid problems? Probably. I tell her to get them checked along with the adrenals. She's stressed beyond belief in work. This is how she is. I just leave her be to live in her discomfort. I can't do anything. My humble advise to you is to just leave her be unless something looks seriously wrong with her health. She has somewhat come around after going to 3 different doctors and they did the normal 5 minute visit and write a Rx for SSRIs. She went off the SSRI and recently went to my doctor. She still doesn't understand that the doctor works for us and we need to be an active participant to make it work. I have told her that she needs to get in touch with how she really feels and what effects it. I'm in group 2. like for e2 control... doc won't write you for arimidex and your e2 is over 50? order some arimidex from ADC do 1/4 tab eod and watch your numbers " magically " fall into a decent range. Most doctors are idiots/uninformed/terrified/etc. about certain things, such as diet, testosterone/HGH and certain other hormones, exercise, the toxic sides of certain medications such as statins, diet, (did I mention diet?) and so on...they're fairly good if you have, say, a gunshot wound or strep throat. Guest guest Posted May 23, 2010 Report Share Posted May 23, 2010 Phil, Yeu are partly right...once a woman loses her healthy levels of hormones during menopause it directly affects her mood and brain. If you want to really understand it I suggest you read Suzanne's book " the sexy years " for an overall understanding of the decline in a woman health after losing her protective hormones and Uzzi Reiss's books to understanding BHRT therapy. My number one symptom of losing my estrogen was an inabililty to sleep....once my doctor gave me my first prescription I was sleeping like a baby....for others it can be progesterone....Dr. Uzzi Reiss's book (eiterh one) is very good at sorting out some of these differences. There is no way we can maintain our health as we grow older without a nice healthy balance of our hormones whether we are men or women. Another really good book I recently read talks about how each woman has a different balance of the three hormones (estrogen, progesterone and testestosterone) and how it effects their brains differently...ALL the books I have read agree on one point that there really is no blood or saliva standard or formula to test a womans hormones you just have to go by symptoms because we all react too differently. I do not know why some people do not seem compelled to help themselves. It can be so frustrating if that person is very close to you. And speaking on the subject of playing doctor...I learned to take my health into my own hands after the doctors nearly killed me with combination of beat blockers and water pills at on;ly 23 years old....I can go on for several more paragraphs of medical errors that have done to me over the years all the while wathcing carefully for them. Before I was diagnosed with the pitutary I had a famous docotor tell me I was a T2 diabetic NOT a T1 and he got out his prescription pad to write out some med's that he said would cure me!!!! I paid this guy big money for him to almost try and kill me...I can only make it about 4 hours without insulin and fortunatly I KNOW THIS fact but someone else he could have killed....I have had T1 diabetes for over 25 years... I told her the other day is something happened to her I would not even miss her. I was hoping when they put her under for this last Knee sugary it would reset her and she would start sleeping. She had a 4x's in a day Cortisol Saliva test and it was one of the best tests I have seen no problems there. She dose have a Thyroid problem Hashimoto's and I found her a dam good Dr. then one day she needed to see him and got one of the other Dr.'s a women so she sees her. This domb Dr. is dosing her Thyroid meds by testing TSH I just found this out the other day. I have told her for yrs you can't dose Thyorid by testing just TSH. So I give up. Too many put men on 1 mgs 3x's a week and tell them to come back in 3 months. By the time they get back in they are suffering from bad ED and bone loss.
