Hi all. Here is my story. I was told by someone on another forum to join this

forum to get educated. I am 55 and fairly healthy. I took Zoloft for about 7

years, and stopped cold turkey last September. I stopped because of the delayed

or sometimes no orgasm I was experiencing. I knew this medication was causing

that problem. But I started experiencing erection and libido problems to a

lesser degree. Anyways when I stopped, things got even worse to my surprise.

First the withdrawal symptoms, and then with ED and libido worse. I didn't know

WTF was going on. Had never heard of PSSD. I started to do some research, and

that's when I came across the SSRI Medication forum and began to realize that this is

what my problem was. But before I discovered this, I went to a Urologist to get

a check up, because I thought there might have been something physically wrong

with me. But I got a clean Bill of health, and the doctor told me my

Testosterone was actually high for my age, although I don't remember what the

number was. Anyways, he gave me a script for Viagra, and this worked good for a

few months. But then all of sudden, it just stopped working like it had. I

thought maybe I had built up a tolerance to it. I have been doing a lot of

research and read about DIM. So I tried this for about a month, and didn't

notice any difference. But then the Viagra started working again. But I still

didn't realize that the Viagra working and the DIM relationship, until I read a

post by someone on here. It was at this point that I realized that I probably

have a testosterone/estrogen imbalance. I am guessing from a combination of my

age and the Zoloft. I got my testosterone level tested 2 weeks ago, and the

number was around 340. My doctor said that this number was ok, and that I did

not need to have TRT. I accepted this until that person on this forum informed

me that this is probably too low, and that I needed to find another doctor.

Anyways, it sure would be nice to get back to where I felt more libido, and

where I didn't need Viagra. Maybe this is a pipe dream, I am not sure. Any help

would be appreciated. Oh, I forgot to mention, that I am now taking Wellbutrin

for my depression, and this has helped with that. And it doesn't seem to effect

me in a negative way, as like I said, the Viagra is working pretty good.

If you were taking Zoloft and now Wellbutrin for depression, you should know

that depression is often caused by low thyroid levels. You need to have your

Free T3, Free T4, and reverse T3 tested. You should also get a 4x/day saliva

cortisol lab. My husband has seen dramatic improvement by taking both Erfa

thyroid and testosterone cypionate injections. Apparently many who are low

thyroid are also low testosterone, or vice versa, so both need to be treated.

Testosterone helps the inactive T4 thyroid hormone convert to the active T3

hormone, so that may by the link.

Hi Ed and Welcome,

I lost 5 yrs of my life on SSRI med when I first got sick I was told after a

small amount of testing I suffer from Major Depression. I had to go along with

this because I was of work on sick leave. I needed a Dr. to approve my not

being able to work to get sick pay and keep my job.

I was never Depressed and the meds they gave me one after the other only made me

feel worse. And make is very hard to reach an orgasm. It's a long story you

can read about it at this link.

http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=5 & t=9239

I tell men to get these labs push your Dr. to run them if they will not find a

better Dr. SSRI meds will lower your Testosterone even more then it was before

you started on SSRI meds.

Adding to them labs get Total T3 and T4 for thyroid.

http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=5 & t=7059

http://www.priory.com/psych/sexdys.htm

I know a dam good Dr. no that is in Psychiatry that feels people are

depressed due to low hormones. He came to one of the Men's Health Forums for

info from us about low Testosterone for a book he is doing and now has a forum.

You would go good to go there and read.

http://www.definitivemind.com/forums/index.php

You can read all the posting and replies he did in the files section at the home

page here at . The name of the file is " nco7.zip " if you read this

you will know more about this then most Dr.'s do.

Any Dr. that would tell a man his levels are good as low as yours are is not up

on low Testosterone and you need to run from this Dr. Also you need to know

it's going to take time to get your sex life back but it will come back and in

the mean time switch to Cialis they have a new pill you take everyday. But I

just cut the 20 mg pill into 3 parts and take it everyday doing this as you get

your hormones leveled will bring back your night time and morning wood this will

in time make your penis health again.

Talking Cialis you don't have to wait for a pill to work and after about a week

on this the sides are gone.

You need to check your Estradiol E2 levels this is what kills men's sex life.

We need to keep it at about 20 pg/ml most men over 40 it is said there levels of

E2 are higher then there wife.

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=450553

http://www.griffinmedical.com/male_hormone_modulation_therapy.html

What ever you do don't let anyone talk you into stopping your meds with out your

Dr. or a better Dr. working with you on this. I found I did not need AD drugs

and I was on them all even the one your on now.

Ed as phil nicely pointed out that so many guys are condemned to SSRI which in

reality is due to other hormonal, nutrient imbalnaces, or hidden stressors.

There is a strong connection between mind/body link so some times its the jobs

of the practioner it look at the pathology of the problem treat it accordingly.

340 is concidered normal for people because you are in the range. We have had

many patients that are on antidepressants for several years , but with the

combination of proper lifestlye, idenitying nutritional imbalnaces, Good sleep

hygiene and even hormonal imbalnces. One can have good testosterone and then

other factors may be affecting the bodys ability to properl utilize it. The dr

needs to look to the cause vs symptoms factor. Once this is indentified they

its the skill of the practioner to administer the proper treatment to alleviate

the symptoms while attacking the cause in the mean time. There is no more

satification when a patient sends us and email how that with in a few weeks they

feel like their old selves. People may feel relieve in matter of a few days

others may take upto 1-2 years, but the reward was well worth the wait.

Thanks Phil, I saw your post on it yesterday and tried to listen to it, but got

an error message.

DH has already done the HC and Isocort and has already weaned off. I just

lowered him to 2 grains Erfa and 30 mg tc every 5 days. That seems like a

ridiculously low amount of tc from what I'm reading here, but his frees were

over range on 40 mg and his estradiol was high. I also stopped the stinging

nettle root and I swear his bust is shrinking. How long do you have to wait to

retest when changing a dose?

It downloads fine, then says " invalid menu handle " It's trying to open with

Windows Media Player. Maybe I need something else?

And to the other Floridians, I'm in Titusville! No docs here, just a D.O.

working with us.

Frees are not an accurate measurement of testosterone because they only make up

1-2% of total testosterone. One needs to look at the sHBG and also estrodial. If

the SHBG is low then e2 should also be in the 20-30 range and guage symptoms

based upon how one feel. After changing does give it 4-5 weeks to finally

stabilize to get a true indicator of what the changes have done.

If you don't use the frees, do you use the totals as a guideline? What is

optimal within Quest's 250-1100 range? His total was 971 on day 3/5, so he has

room to go lower. He also said he feels better since we lowered his dose a

couple of weeks ago.
