Guest guest
Can I ask what t3 and t4 you are/were taking? Are they synthetic? Like levothyroxine? And how do you feel taking the t3 in addition to the t4 and why did you go off the t4? I am on levothyroxine and miserable - I'm looking to switch - and I don't know what you mean by what to discern from your numbers... I would say go by more how you feel...so how do you feel? Oh and how long have you been on your meds? -angela > > These labs were taken while I was taking 15 mcgs of T3 2xday along with 12-1/2mcgs 1xday of T4. Guest guest
If you go back in the messages on site you will see that I was on Armour. When they changed their formula all my hypo symptoms came back with terrible pains in shoulders, arms, legs and feet. After input from people on this list I asked my doctor if I could be tested for RT3. It came back high. He put me on T3 only (liothyronine/cytomel). I improved. He wanted me to see someone else too because he is a rheumatologist and I am now. This new doctor added 25 mcg of T4 (levothyroxine/levoxyl). After a few days I had to stop it. He said to cut it in half-I did. I was on both for about three weeks and feeling worse. I took a blood test, and then stopped the T4 on my own. I feel better. I saw him this week and he agreed to leave me on the T3 alone to see how I do, and retest in 2 months. So that's my story. Good luck with yours. Guest guest
Roni, From your labs you could probably go up on the T3 a bit. On the Rt3 group it is suggested that you want your Free t3 to be close to 5. Some feel well at 4 something. I am 5.6. I will probably cut out my .5 I add to my morning 25mcg. Val, says that we do not have any reserves of T3 because we do not have any T4 so you do want your numbers over range. This is just something you might want to think about. What have your temps been. You want to get an average of 98.6. We are supposed to take our temps 3x a day and average them. Guest guest
I haven't been doing the temps because up until a couple of days ago I was freezing. I'm still getting cold on and off, but the also the weather has been mild this week. I have atrial fibrillation, and the T3 is giving me palpatations about 2 hours after I take it. It lasts about 15 minutes and then dissipates. I'm not going to increase the dose till this stops because I don't want to damage my heart. Thanks for the info on the ranges. I had a lot of pain today from the fibro, and I took a naproxen. About two hours after, my heart started palpatating and hasn't stopped. It looks like I won't be able to take NSAIDs any more either. I've had some problems with the ibuprofen too. My doctor wants me to take aspirin, but I've been staying away from it. Ugh! something else to have to figure out. Guest guest
Her Free T4 should be low. The only way you can rid yourself of Rt3 is to stop the T4. I started T3 only in April and as of Aug. my Rt3 was <17. The level of Rt3 is not the only importance. You have to find the Ratio between the Ft3 and Rt3 to really see how you are doing. The ratio should be at least 20. Mine before T3 only was 10.5. Venizia > > > > > > These labs were taken while I was taking 15 mcgs of T3 2xday along with 12-1/2mcgs 1xday of T4. Guest guest
I have been off the T4 for almost two weeks, and I'm feeling a bit better. I noticed my sleeping is better, even though I'm taking my last pill in the evening. I see a bit of an improvement in my skin and hair, but I have my fingers crossed. Stomach is better too. Guest guest
well, your T3 is in the mid range, could be higher and your T4 is still too low. so, you may do better on a combo med with both T3 and 4. what are your symptoms? are you better with a T3 only med? remember you should go by your symptoms and use the labs as a reference. Guest guest
Below are my latest labs. My symptoms continue to be fatigue, insomnia, apathy, lethargy, poor appetite, heavy arms, mildly tingling fingers. Mild internal nervousness, mild tugging on the tongue and face (occasionally), wierd head pressures, eye focusing issues, concentration. I ahve no desire for sweets, salts or thirst. I can go several weeks with all above symptoms then suddenly they will all clear up for 4-5 days. Then I go back into same mode slowly. At night after 10 most symptoms relieve. MY TSH seems to fluctuate every time I have blood pulled. It was 3.5 3 mos ago, now its the highest @ 8.5. Otherwise the other thyroid numbers remain constant. The Free Testosterone was much lower, about 7.5 in April, but the serum total T continues to drop from 334. My adrenal saliva tests changed from 3 mos ago (ZRT). Haven't taken anything. It was 5.5, 1.3, 0.4L, 0.3L in April Now its 5.3, 1.1L, 1.1, 0.4 I would esp like input on calcium, had that checked 7 times in past year and its been constant (high normal or slightly elevated). Now its 10.3, and PTH is 18. Vit D is 27.4. All sites I looked at say its not parathyroid problem since PTH is low an D is low. I've been told D is in protective mode because PTH is trying to keep calcium in range. Increasing D will only alow for better calcium absorption so now I am not supp D. D numbers have been around 27 for months (tested 5 times) Below are the labs (about $7k worth of them). Please advise your comments. Guest guest
Phil, Tks for the response. Sorry about the labs, I used RTF but I guess it made it worse. TSH has been up and down every test, it's never the same but they are always on high side. The other numbers have been very consistent First test: 5/09: 12.2 Then: 6.3, 4.8, 4.6, 7.37, 3.5, 8.3 Never taken any calcium supplements, don't drink much milk except in my one cup of coffee every AM. I do eat cheese. Also bottled spring water and always wondered if that has calcium. Test Free has gone from 9.0 in 5/09 to 7.5 (4/09) to 9.5 (8/1). is a urologist the best doc to go for checking testis? My hydration is inconsistent. Although I fasted the AM of the test I did not drink water that AM either. But again, my calcim has been measured 7 times and seems to be >10 each time. I can't possibly be dehydrated 7 of 7 times? The creatinine # has hovered around that high to high normal mark for over a year (since I started up with the labs). Guest guest
TSH 16.54 (0.4-4.5) FT4 1.26 (0.82-1.77) TT3 72 (71-180) (grrr, she ran the wrong one, it was supposed to be FT3. le sigh) Why would my FT4 be in range and almost good but my TSH still way to high? Is that Total T3 of any value? Hi , Not knowing anything about your medical history other than reading earlier that you are currently on Levo (but want to switch to NDT), the above TFT paints the picture of a person with Hashimoto's, who had been taking insufficiently low doses of thyroid hormones for too long. Your thyroid antibodies have not been checked this time (do you have confirmed thyroid autoantibodies?), but the impression your results give is that you have been kept on a too low dosage of Levo. According to explanations on the STTM site, either lower than needed doses of thyroid medication or staying on a too low dosage for too long, will feed antibody attacks on the thyroid, not stop them, and this might result in an elevated TSH.... and an elevated TSH – to the best of my knowledge - always means that not enough thyroid hormone is getting inside the cells. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/hashimotos/ With best wishes,
Guest guest
Hi, TT3 includes RT3 as well as FT3, but I think that this result is still useful as it is only one degree above the bottom of the range, so does indicate that you are not converting well, considering that your FT4 is well up in it's range- if all was going well then your FT3 would be much higher in the range as there is plenty of T4 to work on. TSH is ludicrously high which again shows that you are very deficient- most healthy folk have a TSH of around 1.0/ thyroid treatment ; graves_support From: krigaren007@...Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2011 11:54:14 -0500Subject: Latest labs Hello all, Here are my latest labs for discussion: TSH 16.54 (0.4-4.5) FT4 1.26 (0.82-1.77) TT3 72 (71-180) (grrr, she ran the wrong one, it was supposed to be FT3. le sigh) Why would my FT4 be in range and almost good but my TSH still way to high? Your doctor should have tested your FREE T3 - NOT Total T3. Why on earth did she do that? She is testing your free T4, which is probably reasonably high in the range because it is NOT converting to the active thyroid hormone T3, and this could be the reason why your TSH is showing such a high level. Your pituitary gland starts secreting high amounts of TSH when it recognises your body is not getting the thyroid hormone it needs. Go back and tell your GP she has done the wrong test and ask for free T3 instead. If the laboratory are refusing to test free T3, tell her to write a blood request form for TSH and Free T3 ONLY - and if she writes '?hyperthyroidism' on the blood request form only - it will get done. Guest guest
@Sheila, I don't think she did it intentionally. But it's ok. FT3 will be just a slight bit higher than a TT3 draw. We can infer that I'm still on the low range. I still have not been on one med/dose program for a full 6 weeks, so I'm actually happy with these labs. I was 115 TSH in January (no, I didn't drop a decimal point). So, yeah. Stuffs are working.
