Guest guest
Hello, This is my first post on this group. I think that this is an awesome group with tons and tons of information. I was surprised to find a lot of members in this group are as knowledgeable as a doctor. In any case, I was having a light hearted conversation with my wife over the weekend over my choice of doctors. For the record, all of my doctors (Primary care physician, Urologist, Endocrinologist) are white females probably in their late thirties. I am a male in the same general age range (36) as well. Since the issue of Testosterone replacement therapy invariably leads to a discussion of sex, erections, testis, penis and intercourse, the choice of a doctor that you feel comfortable talking to about these things is very important in my opinion. I have never felt comfortable talking about these with a male doctor. However, I feel comfortable talking about these topics with a female doctor. Besides TRT will probably involve dropping your pants every once in a while. In my case, I had the urologist examine my genitals once initially when I went in for an evaluation and every 3 months or so to check for shrinkage of the testis due to TRT. While I hate having to drop my pants every so often, I would hate it even more if I had to drop it in front of a male doctor. Also I have been lucky enough to find a urologist and endocrinologist who have no qualms about extracting information that I probably would not have volunteered. Now for the main reason for my post. While my wife doesn't mind it one bit, she thinks that I am the exception to the norm in my preference for female doctors to talk about something so personal to men. She thinks that almost all men would rather talk about something so personal with another male rather than a female. I don't think that I am that alone in my doctor gender preference. All other things being equal (professionalism, qualification, proximity to doctor's office, insurance accepted etc), would you rather have a male doctor or a female doctor for your TRT? Would be great if you include your reasons for your preference as well. If you are too busy, then just a single sentence with your preference would do. Please note that I am NOT asking if you currently have a male or a female doctor, I am asking you the gender of the doctor that you would rather have if you had the choice? Also if you are a female undergoing TRT, please indicate that in your response so that my survey numbers don't go haywire. Thanks for your time.
