Guest guest
Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can take that dose not make me feel sick. Now what can I do for the pain I am in from being on Statin Drugs. I had Heart Bypass Surgery 2 yrs ago in the hosp. they tired every kind of Pain med there is for my pain. After being in a coma 13 weeks I had to be opened up 5 x's due to infections and they put me in a coma becuse they could not close me up until the blood thinners were out of my body. I ended up with a huge bed sore on my back side and needed pain meds for this when I got out of ICU. The only one that worked was a shot I can't remember the name. But they could not let me go home until they found a pain med I could take that agreed with me and it was Darvocet. Here is what I found as to why they pulled Darvocet. *http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sc-dc-1120-fda-darvon-20101\ 119,0,3731927.story ============================= The FDA's decision, based on data showing a risk of serious heart rhythm abnormalities
Guest guest
Bummer to hear that, Phil. It seems that the withdrawal of certain drugs (in this case, pain relievers) often leaves patients without a working option for their needs. I wonder though if you've tried/considered buprenorphine/suboxone. It is a schedule 3 controlled substance (while Darvocet is schedule 4); buprenorphine is prescribed for chronic pain (I have friends with fibromyalgia who have taken it with good responses, and one who had severe bone pain from osteogenesis imperfecta who found significant relief while on it). An additional use of suboxone- which does not pertain to your situation- is to treat narcotic addiction. This unique feature is due to buprenorphine's combination of suboxone with naloxone, which acts as an opoid receptor antagonist & somewhat reduces the likelihood of addiction. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buprenorphine) Rheumatologists/pain specialists would be your best bet. You can do a search here for doctors licensed to prescribed buprenorphine/suboxone: (http://buprenorphine.samhsa.gov/bwns_locator/dr_search.htm) Hopefully, you can find some alternative medication which successfully provides pain relief. ~Xian > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can take that dose not make me feel sick. Guest guest
Have you tried Neurontin / Gabapentin? Some people report similar relief to opioids but without the addiction potential and other side effects. It does seem to be an estrogen agonist, however. > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can take that dose not make me feel sick. Guest guest
Phil, I was on Tramadol 50mg 3x/day for a sprained back. I was on it for about 8 weeks. All I can say is its a damn good pain medicine. Didnt mess me up and actually relieved my pain. Its really the only pain med that I have taken that I can say really works. I hope you can experiance relief with it as well. Good luck > > > > > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet > > yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can > > take that dose not make me feel sick. Guest guest
Dave, I had never heard of Neurontin's/Gabapentin's role as an estrogen agonist. Interesting stuff. As you mentioned, Phil, feeling funny in the head is a real concern with Gaba/Neurontin, as all the people I knew who have taken it had this side effect. Gaba has the advantage of being generic now & hence being cheaper than many other pain relievers, but the dizziness factor is a real concern, especially if someone has difficulty walking/is over 60. Phil, I hardly think of you as elderly, but there are other pain relievers (like Soma/Carisoprodol) which may cause drowsiness and dizziness and are strongly cautioned against in people over 60. I'm not aware of Ultram's benefits/strength and concerns, but I remember Life Extension recommends it post-operatively rather than morphine, if possible. Again, I hope you find something that works for you. ~Xian > > > > > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet > > yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can > > take that dose not make me feel sick. Guest guest
> The only one that worked was a shot I can't remember the name. well find out the name. virtually everything that can be given as a shot can be swallowed... though quite frankly I wouldn't " waste " a Dilaudid or Morphine etc taking it orally since you only get about 50% metabolized. Guest guest
Yeah. Sorry. It has ED as a side effect so I confused it with something that raises estrogen. http://epilepsy.emedtv.com/neurontin/neurontin-sexual-side-effects.html > > > > > > > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet > > > yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can > > > take that dose not make me feel sick. Guest guest
At the risk of sounding like a complete bonehead, have you tried medical cannabis? You sound like the perfect candidate. If it were legal in my state, my wife would be using it for her chronic pain. > > > > > > > > > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's > > candy yet > > > > yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain > > pill I can > > > > take that dose not make me feel sick. Guest guest
Well Monday I started on Ultram but my Dr. only started me on 50 mgs I took this in the morning about 5am by noon I was in a lot of pain. And the pill I took at 5am did not help much. I called my Dr. he told me take one every 12 hrs. WTF the Darvocet 3x's a day is much stronger then this. So by Tue I was in a lot of pain so I called him back now he tells me I can take it every 4 hrs up to 4x's a day. I guess he is just covering his a** starting me off low and working up on the dose. It took up to Fri. before it was working great I am doing so much better at 4x's per day. I was able to go into my Spa that is on my deck off my bedroom. My wife helped it get into it it's set at 102 deg.'s. Wow did that feel great and I did some leg exercising in it. I stayed in it 30 min.'s I was hard to get out you get like a rag doll in that heat. But man do I feel better from a good soak in the spa. Mon. I am going to the Old Persons Club I am a member at and using there Therapy Pool going to try waking in the deep water. > > > > > > > > Dr.'s can hand out Statin Drugs like it's candy yet > > > yesterday the FDA pull Darvocet the only pain pill I can > > > take that dose not make me feel sick.
