How long for Testim to start working

I went to see my doctor for problems with low libido, ed, and after the

bloodwork came back my t-level was low(278), so she prescribed 50mg of Testim.

Went back after two weeks for another blood test and my level dropped to 170. I

am now doing 100mg of Testim every morning but have seen no difference. I have

been doing the 100mg for a week now, should I see a difference or do I need to

wait longer? Dr. wants me to come back after two weeks to check t-levels again

but I am skeptical that the gel just isnt working. I am a 42yo male.

Hi tacoma and welcome,

Your lucky your Dr. knows to test you every 2 weeks when you start on gels most

Dr.'s put men on a low dose and tell them to come back in 2 to 3 months.

Yes a low dose for some men can make your T levels go down. Your brain sees the

added T and stops telling your Testis to make more so all your left with is what

the gel is doing.

You need to work with this Dr. she sounds like she knows what she is doing.

Some men the gel can't get through there skin and your levels can end up going

down before they go up if your next test is still low you need to go on shots.

Starting with 100 mgs per weeks ask her to show you how to do them your self.

And make sure you do tests for Estradiol E2 this is what kills mens libido and

gives them ED problems.

If you can get a copy of your labs and post them with the units and ranges.

If it is working you should feel a little better in 2 weeks.

Hey Tacoma and welcome - some guys have a problem absorbing also. I tried

androgel and got the same T value or lower after using for a while. For me shots

was the way to go. This is only true if your willing to do the shots yourself. I

tried patches also and that was a disaster. Luckily your Dr. will test you this

quickly. I would try the increase for 2 weeks and then get tested. If still low

I would suggest going to shots.  Arkansas

I use Testim and felt results the first day or two.... but everyone is

different.

A level of 170 seems too low at one-tube dosing so you may have an

absorption issue. It was wise to move to two-tubes and retest. In

order to provide a more-informed opinion, as Phil says, posting the labs

would help. The doctor sounds as if they are on the right track but I

would be sure that you get labs for 1) E2, Sensitive, 2) SHBG, 3) Total

T, and 4) Bioavailable T (if available), and 5) DHT. High Estradiol may

be part of the low T level. You may also want to evaluate your thyroid.

My T levels are fairly good with one-tube of Testim but I never felt 90%

without hCG.... it is important for several reasons. Hopefully your

doctor is up on hCG and supports the use. I say 90% because I believe I

still have room for improvement but now thyroid/adrenals are the larger

concern.

I hear that some people absorb Androgel better and vice-versa....

depends upon the individual. I would not give up on transdermals until

you try at least one more (big Pharma or compounded). Look at Dr

Crisler's paper on TRT at " All Things Male "

Have you noticed any changes?

When I first started, I got hot flashes mild acne & sore nips.

Those are typical of puberty which is normal under TRT.

If you weigh a lot or have thick skin, that may be an issue.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still using two tubes each morning and feel more

tired, less libido(nonexistent)and no morning erections. The doctor I'm seeing

isn't good, she only checked my total t-level, nothing else. She won't do

injections either so I have set up an appt. with a uroligist that does. As far

as hot flashes, I get real red in the face after using it if thats what that is.

I feel worse now than before I started the Testim. Before it was just low libido

and ed, now I'm pretty tired alot, no libido, no erections. Tried taking a

cialis the other night and still couldnt get one. I'm debating on whether to

stop using it until I see the urologist but I dont know if that would make me

feel worse. I've only been on it for less than three weeks.
