Guest guest
Antiaging doctors may be good, but may not... here's my experience with two... I am trying to help my 23-yr old son who has serious hormonal issues that I also have and so does his sister. None of us can get decent medical care here. Anti-aging clinics are becoming the " trendy " thing here, with 4 opening in the past year ortwo. So in trying to find a doctor that can help us, I have been to two who offer a free consult appt. Their advertising and promotional info sounds wonderful, but at the appts I found out otherwise. I went to one in Feb. He knew much less than even the regular doctors that are clueless. A lot of what he told me was wrong. He has a high-pressure sales pitch (that even included financing through a certain company) for his program- cost $6,000 for 6 months that includes 2 appts a week (for what???), plus additional cost f the supplements and products that you buy from him (but were never explained which ones he recommended and why)... However, he had NO clue at all about thyroid, said my D3 and ferritin were both ok when they were actually extremely low, didn't test most hormones, and didn't have all the lab results back when they tried to get me to sign up for his 'program' (whatever that is...) He is potentially dangerous... I saw another last month. He knew a little more about hormones, but when I started asking questions he also gave me some wrong info. Then he ran tests but refused to allow me to go to the lab of my choice and insisted he MUST draw the blood to send it to certain lab. I made them verify that my insurance would cover it. Bruised my arm badly. Then after the blood draw when he had me sign a form (something for the lab so they could be reimbursed for it), I saw the list of tests. He did some really good ones that I need but no one would do- but some were not the correct ones and some were not done properly so are useless (examples: aldosterone, progesterone, other things that must be fasting and were not). When I asked about these he insisted it doesn't matter. Before the tests I asked about doing thyroid FREE t3/4 and he agreed that's what I need to test thyroid- but he did TSH, total t4, and a few other useless outdated thyroid tests. TSH is useless with my pit problems. As I asked questions that he didn't know the answers, he got more and more nervous, realizing I knew more about some things than him. They refused to give me a f/u appt, were supposed to call instead, but a month later I have not been able to get my lab ressults from them yet. If I'd gone to the lab where I wanted to go, they would've done the tests properly, and after the results had been back for 10 days I'd be able to get a copy from that hospital's med records dept. The one that I was the most impressed with from my phone call does not offer a free consult and is very expensive so I could not afford it. Maybe that one would've been good... The anti-aging doctors here are using " hormones " in their ads as an excuse to get patients and make money. Instead, I would look for doctors in Integrative medicine, Functional medicine, Complementary medicine. They may not know as much as they should, but they are usually better than any others. Good luck! > > > > Basically told me that if my T was 382 which it was a few months ago, then I didn't really have a T issue. I showed him Dr Crisler's paper, and he thought a lot of it was bunk. I told him that I would like to have E2 measured, and he said that he only tested that if a man showed signs of gyno! He said that me having the erratic ED problems didn't make any sense. He is just testing my T, and thyroid hormones this Friday. Oh well, what the hell! > > >
