Guest guest
Your low SHBG indicates insulin resistance or hypothyroid. Have you had your thyroid levels checked with Free T3, Free T4, something besides TSH? > > I have been MIA from the group for a long time. I was doing great with T replacement and then my prolactin levels became normal and the Dr took me off T about 18 months ago. I did fine for almost a year feeling fine but slowly I went into the lows again. Fast forward to now my Dr left and turned me over to a new Dr and she sent me the following test results. She sounded pretty worried from the sound of the results and is having me retest. She did say if the results were still showing low T that she would start me on HRT again. I am praying. > > Can someone please give me an idea of what these numbers mean besides just having low T > > FSH - 5.1 miU/ml > LH - 3.7 miU/ml > T free - 6.6 > T total - 180 > SHBG - 13 nmol/L > > Thanks >
Guest guest
It looks to me like your Pituitary is not working right not telling your testis to make more T. With a Total T this low if your Testis can make enough T your FSH and LH would be at the top of the range trying to get your testis to make more. Your FSH and LH are not very high meaning your Pituitary is doing this or something is slowing it down. To check this do a Clomid or HCG stim. test read about them in this link. http://www.aace.com/pub/pdf/guidelines/hypogonadism.pdf Co-Moderator Phil > From: huckfor1 <huckfor1@...> > Subject: Test results > > Date: Monday, September 27, 2010, 1:18 AM > I have been MIA from the group for a > long time. Guest guest
With a total T that low Free T means nothing Free T is 2% or your Total and with a number this low that is not much to take a % from. Your SHBG is low look at your sugar levels. Guest guest
Doctor has Partial pituitary insufficency and pituitary adenoma as diagnosis. I saw thee same thing from what I have read. LH and FSH were low normal but should be on the high end because the T is so low. Any suggestions on what I should be looking at for a remedy? Is TRT my best bet or should I try something else. I will have blood drawn this week and hope to hear back from the Dr in about a week. I have this time to prepare for her call. > > It looks to me like your Pituitary is not working right not telling your testis to make more T. Guest guest
I am Hypopituitary took me 23 yrs to figure this all out your lucky. I was on TRT all them yrs. and never felt all that great. I now do Testosterone shots every 3 days you can start with 40 mgs of Test C every 3 days and do 250 IU's of HCG the day before the Test C shot. I take .25 mgs a day to keep my Estradiol down but you would only need this every 3 days. I am on Cortef HC for low Cortisol levels doing 30 mgs / day 10 mgs at 5am then I go back to bed and when I get up at 8am I feel better. I then eat and take 5 mgs, 5 mgs more for lunch at 1pm then 5mgs at 6pm and 5 mgs at bedtime. I am also on Florinef for low Aldosterone levels I take .1 mgs at 5am and drink water all day long with Sea Salt in it 1/2 tsp to 27 oz canteen of water. I am on Synthroid 150 mcgs and T3 only 5 mcgs 2x's a day for Thyroid. I have low Ferritin and take Iron pills for this. My IGF-1 and IGFBP-1 levels are low and last Nov. I was put on Growth Hormone but the dose was to high and the sides were to much for me. I was off them for 4 weeks and put back on the at half the dose and still had the sides now I don't take it. My DHEA was low for yrs. and I took supplements for it but after I started on Florinef my levels shot why up so I stopped the DHEA and today my labs show me up at the top of the range. You need to stay on top of all your hormones that are controled by the Pituitary even ones low normal you might feel better treating them. Guest guest
You need to run from this Dr. your levels are that of a man 100 yrs old. I attach a file showing you Testosteone levels by age I hope it helps. One thing you can do is check your Estradiol levels doing a Quest labs test #4021 the range is 13 to 54 pg/ml if your over 30 best at 20 this can be why your levels are so low read this link. http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/89/3/1174 If our to high getting this down you can come up some 200 to 300 points on your labs. http://www.medibolics.com/ArimidexBoostsTestosterone.htm To find a better Dr. go to the files section and read " Finding a New Male Hormone Dr. " then make some calls ask questions like do you treat by labs or how one feels and how many men does the Dr. treat for this problem. Does he test Estradio levels and us Arimidex to being down high levels. Try looking in the Database section the men here have there Dr.'s names in this file and you might find one near you. You can also Email or call Compounding Pharmacy's and ask for the name of a Dr. in your area that uses there survice. http://www.collegepharmacy.com/menshealth/andropause.asp Dr. likes this one. Guest guest
He agreed to testosterone injections, and referral to other specialists. I had to pressure him a bit. I hate Kaiser. Previously, I was in an excellent HMO which allowed me to let the physician be the expert. With Kaiser, I am required to be my own doctor, and direct the efforts of the gatekeepers to services. Guest guest
Kaiser is very bad most of the men that come here can't find a good Dr. let alone have to deal with Kaiser. If you want to get better you need to see a Dr. outside of Kaiser they are very down on low T. It's you life you need to take control of it find a better Dr. one like Dr. men fly or drive out to see him. He is the kind of Dr. that only needs to see you once to test and treat you by phone after you see him. www.allthingsmale.com Co-Moderator Phil > > > > > From: Spanky <spankysd@... > <spankysd%40gmail.com>> > > > Subject: Test Results > > > > < %40> > > > Date: Monday, October 4, 2010, 2:12 PM > > > > > I'm 53 years old, and healthy, except > > > that my libido is zero for the past > > > couple of years. Guest guest
My internist has ordered testosterone shots once every three weeks. It seems to me that it would make more sense to do it once per week at a lower dosage. Does anyone here know of any contraindication to once per week shots, vs once per three weeks? Guest guest
Has anyone here used Nebido? My understanding is that it is a Bayer Pharma product which is in use in 86 countries. It is injectable and keeps your levels stable for about four months. I live 20 minute from a pharmacy in Mexico. I could do down once every 3-4 months and just do the injection there. No need to even bring it across the border. From what I understand, the FDA started trials. It is well known that the injection, which is quite large (4 ml) has to be delivered slowly. However in the trial of 500 men, one of them received a rapid injection, so he coughed for 10 minutes. Medical intervention was not required, and the reason for his coughing was already known about the drug were it was used. So, because the person who administered the drug did so improperly, the US FDA approval has been delayed. Guest guest
Sorry but this is old school most men do shots every week some do them 2x's a week. I do mine like Dr. Shippen does for his self he did the book " The Testosterone syndrome " every 3 days. Even in this link that is dated it states to do shots every 7 to 10 days. http://www.aace.com/pub/pdf/guidelines/hypogonadism.pdf I do my shots every 3 days I got this from Dr. Shippen he did the book " The Testosterone Syndrome " he does this to his self. Doing this keeps you more leveled holds down high levels of Estadiol E2 and helps keep your blood thinner. Ask the Dr. to let you do your own shots stop going in to his office and paying them to give you shots. Most Dr.'s today that do this want the money by having you come in for a shot. Doing shots this way your levels peak after 4 to 5 days then start to fall by your next shot in 3 weeks your levels are very low and when levels get lower we feel like crap. He is putting you on a roller coaster ride up after your dam big shot only to fall low again by your next one. Go to www.allthingsmale.com and read TRT: A Recipe for Success print this out and give it to your Dr. Dr. puts this out there free for you and your Dr. he is one of the best male hormone Dr.'s out there. Guest guest
It just dose not work that long when it first came out the guys posting about it from the UK were not lasting longer then 2 weeks and they ended up low again. As it turns out Nebido for the men I have talked to the best they can get out of this big shot is 6 to 8 weeks and it took a long them doing shots early to get there. Guest guest
Thanks, for the info. This is all new to me. So, it sounds like what is available in the US is good for one week, and that Nebido is good for about two weeks. I don't have any problem doing injections myself. I have done so for ED for many years. This guy wants me to go into a clinic which is only open 8-4:30, M-F and closed at lunch time - rather inconvenient. It is Kaiser, and the co-pay is probably $5, so they are not making any money by having me go in there. It probably costs $5 or more in overhead for the receptionist and nurse's time. So, if you decide to do the injections weekly, rather than every three weeks, do you adjust the dosage downward. If so, what is the formula to determine the dosage? I am thinking that because Kaiser is so rigid with the formulary, that they may only allow an injection once every three weeks. In that case, I could just inform the doctor that I will do my own injections weekly in between the visits to his clinic. Guest guest
It best to start with 100 mgs of 200mgs/ml Test C every week or 50 mgs 2x's a week. Nebido after a time might last you 8 weeks can't say each guy dose different on it. You do know if you stress out or sick with an infection this will eat up your T meds very fast. Guest guest
I noted with the Nebido that the manufacturer states that the longer dosage interval is achieved after the first year of use. I am thinking that I will try doing what my doctor says, but I am rather expecting a roller coaster ride, based on what I have read here and on other forums of actual people on TRT. Also, a good friend of mine has tried patches, gels, cream, injections and now pellets. He also confirms the highs and lows of injections once per three weeks. I will know of TRT is right for me pretty soon. So, then I will address the issues involved with getting it right. It is an advantage to live on the Mexican border. I am not locked into the whims of an HMO gatekeeper, or an HMO's rules. But I want to make sure I do it as safely as possible. Thanks for all of your advice. It has been very helpful. Guest guest
So, I got 200 mg test cyp injection yesterday morning. Didn't feel anything for about 8 hours, and then WHAM! Full of energy. Tasks which I used to just look at and groan.... I dug into. Had difficulty shutting down to go to sleep. Slept well, and then just felt like my old tired self this morning, but ravenously hungry. In the early afternoon, I crashed - bone crushing fatigue. Just wanted to lie down on the floor in the bank where I was waiting in line. I figured I might need some food, so I had a quick meal, and now it seems like I am starting to fly like yesterday afternoon? My question is, have others on this forum been on this sort of roller coaster? Are there some other blood tests I should be asking for? If I am patient, can I expect things to level out? I have had a full blood panel, including calcium, potassium, thyroid, liver function and CBC. He has not ordered the full range of hormone blood tests.. Guest guest
I am still open to options. My internist might come through for me, but he might not. Even if I had to go into his clinic for weekly injections, it would not be any more trouble than crossing the border. I was pleasantly surprised that there was not even a copay. The injection was free of charge. Now, if I can just get him to split the dose and do it weekly.... If not, then I will get my own and do it myself. A lot will depend on what is available and what the pricing is. I wouldn't mind going with the Test U, and just transferring it from the glass ampule to a multi-dose vial. Then I could dose myself every 2-3 weeks on a lower dose, or even once weekly. I would think that a large depo injection would stay sore for a long time. Maybe I am wrong about that. I just like the idea of smaller doses delivered more frequently. Guest guest
Look at it this way a shot every 2 weeks is better then none. Back in the day this is all I could get most of the time it was just uncomfortable not real bad. But today doing my Test C shots every 3 days is great. Guest guest
I grateful to have an answer, and to have the options which I do have. Now it is just a matter of working out the details. Guest guest
My interest is in the ED symptoms. But I want to know what my levels are before messing around with it. I guess I will have it tested outside of my HMO. Fortunately, E2 is one of the cheaper tests. Guest guest
I recommend Private MD Labs: http://www.privatemdlabs.com/ They use a Labcorp office near you and you get your results via email. 15% off coupon codes are available every month. Thi month it's jeq2gupa Randy Hoops I guess I will have it tested outside of my > HMO. Fortunately, E2 is one of the cheaper tests.
