Guest guest
I only use 5mg of Androgel. Should I be using something in addition to this? Guest guest
Phil, this is a non issue for me... I am going to wait and see what my labs say. If I want, I can order them. I do not despute your words and hold studies given from women on the same drug men use with some caution. There is nothing but positive regard I have here. Not every doc is bad and Phil, most of us wish what happened to you didn't. RE: HCG and Androgel > > Date: Friday, March 4, 2011, 10:39 AM > How do you know they won't hurt bones > long term in men? Guest guest
Well we do what we have to do and your right most Dr.'s are good you just need the right kind. Guest guest
Good post Calvin. Re: HCG and Androgel uu, both the doc and Phil are right. One side effect from lowering estrogen TOO MUCH (i.e. taking E2/estradiol below 20pg/mL) is shifting the balance of bone metabolism toward bone loss. That's why Phil and everyone else here who talks about using any E2 lowering med underscores the need for labs to track E2 (in addition to personal symptoms like wood). Well-controlled E2 (20-30 pg/mL) should not bring this problem. Going a little on the low side of E2 once or twice in the process of learning to control it isn't going to kill you (think about how many times your hormones may have been imbalanced before!) If your E2 is high or becomes high while using some med, it's worth tracking, knowing, and deciding if you want to live that way. You can avoid the E2 balancing game but then potentially have weak bones from any number of other factors, like lack of resistance bearing activity, low growth hormone/igf, inadequate vitamins K & D, inadequate mineral intake, inadequate protein intake (or excessive protein intake?), inadequate muscle mass to protect bones from injury, etc. Or you might get your T where you need it to be, work out and get in shape, and taking other measures to reduce excessive conversion to E2 and *never need to take Arimidex*. It really depends on what you can afford and commit to doing. You and others here can vouch for how we men can become sluggish and unmotivated as E2 goes high ( & /or as testosterone goes low) and put themselves a [The entire original message is not included]
Guest guest
The dosage of Arimidex used for women undergoing breast cancer treatment is many times (20 to 30) the dose a man uses to lower E2. Phil is right that no one is going to perform a study using men because of the cost and the fact that the side effects from very low doses would be insignificant compared to the side effects women experience. In addition, as a rule-of-thumb, women experience twice the incidence of osteoporosis that men do. Hypogonadism is also a risk factor for osteoporisis for men. Since Arimidex increases testosterone, it would actually reduce the incidence of osteoporosis in men. They did a double blind study for women this cost for this is over the top so they are not going to redo them for men. You will not find studies about this in men. If you need a study don't use it suffer. In stead of asking us for studies on every thing why don't your look for them and if your find some post them. I am sorry but it's getting old all ready. Guest guest
Ed, no one is saýing anything bad about what Phil said. Lets hope one day a study can be done. All the senior citizen men in congress with sagging breast tissue alone should be able to raise awareness for funding. Hey, call your local sagging breast male congressman and educate him! This is not about who is right or wrong; no one is a doc here and all we do is compassionately support one another.
