Guest guest
I take Lisinopril HCTZ 10/12.5 mg and have not had any ED problems (knock on wood, pun intended). I have had trouble having an orgasm, which after research I'm attributing to high estradiol. I'll going for the blood test today for testosterone and estradiol. I meet with my doctor in early March to discuss the results. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Big Biceps Sent: Thursday, February 18, 2010 1:18 PM Subject: Hydrochlorothiazide and testosterone? does Hydrochlorothiazide have an effect upon testosterone? this drug is infamous for causing ED-- true? Guest guest
HCTZ did cause ED for me. Cialis, etc., didn't really help much. I haven't seen anything suggesting it reduces T, nor have I seen an explanation for exactly how it causes ED. But yes, it is infamous for causing ED. Doctors like HCTZ because it works and it's cheap, and because they really don't care much about your side effects, but there are several other classes of blood pressure medicines that also work but don't tend to have this effect. If you have problems you might want to replace the HCTZ with something else. Just avoid diuretics and beta blockers. 25 mg is actually a pretty substantial dose, particularly for a starting dose. Good luck. > > does Hydrochlorothiazide have an effect upon testosterone? > > this drug is infamous for causing ED-- true? Guest guest
hey there mate the thiazide class of diuretics are horrendous for causing ED. the main theory is that they reduce blood volume by depleting the blood of water (via sodium depletion). however, this has been argued in severl instances and the jury is still out, with some medical experts speculating that the loss of various minerals and electrolytes due to the diuretic action of the drug (namely zinc) is the root cause of this. either way, it is one to avoid. if it is just for high BP, there are lots of other equally cheap options. first, I would have a word with your doc about changing that diuretic for another one. furosemide is an option. it is, some say, a more powerful diuretic, but this is incorrect. yes, it is more powerful, but its effects last only six hours (compared to the weaker, but much longer acting HCTZ you have been taking). I have taken furosemide and even after taking it I had no ED trouble. the only trouble will be, 30 minutes after the dose, you will need to pee real bad. that happens about every half an hour for the next six hours. if you can live with that, go for it. otherwise I have been on a drug called Amlodipine for high BP for several years, as I am on life-long anti rejection pills and these have caused that problem (and for high BP caused by those drugs, Amlodipine is the specific antedote). it does not cause ED and is very effective and cheap. a friend of mine takes a BP drug called Prazosin and he has no ED problems. in fact he is quite the opposite so while we have not openly discussed the matter, I am taking the amount of women he has around his house on a weekly basis to be a good indication that this drug is ED free. the only thing he told me was that he felt dizzy for some time and was worried that he would have trouble at work. I have never taken Viagra or any of those drugs mate, so not sure if they will help. I do not think diuretics lower T levels. the only exception and one to avoid like a plague is Spironolactone. I don't think they give it to men, but it does severly interfere with T actions on the body. hope this helps mate - take good care and best of luck ade > > does Hydrochlorothiazide have an effect upon testosterone? > > this drug is infamous for causing ED-- true? Guest guest
As far as I can figure out, my family has a lot of andropause issues, so when my blood pressure started going up, the first drug they give me is hydro, cheap, I was taking 1/2 pill a day. when its combined with another BP med, it can take my numbers from 165/105 to 130/82. Only trouble is it murdered my libido very slowly, over a two year period. At the end of my time on it and attenol, I was having constant gout attacks, and levitra would not even help me get a hard on. the hydro accelarated my andropause into a space where it became noticable. Going on testosterone and having my E2 controlled well dropped my BP to 137/95 Right now my E2 is a little high and hard to control, so its elevated and I may have to start taking a BP med anyways. The arimedex shoots me past the sweet spot fairly easy, so being patient and waiting for a continual dose to slowly This was my first time self injecting. > > does Hydrochlorothiazide have an effect upon testosterone? > > this drug is infamous for causing ED-- true?
