I know what you mean about levels!!! I know mine

are off right now, I'm so tired and COLD, I can't

stand it I'm so cold. I go to the dr. on the 30th so I

hope he can do something, I hate this disease. Lani

I know what you mean about the cold, it is

actually physically painful. I hate the lack of clarity

for just thinking and saing what you wnat to say. I

feel like I'm stupid, but I know I'm not. I think the

problem is that the doctors that treat this don't have

this, and most of them are not women, they don't

understand how differently it effects a womans body. The way

our hormones change thoughout the month etc. The

worst part is that no one wants to listen when you try

to tell them.

I know what you mean. I just recently switched my

primary care physician because I got sick of him making

me feel like I was a hypochondriac. He actually

tried to convince me that losing hair (and quite a bit

of it) was normal. I liked my new doctor, and it is

a woman, so hopefully I will have better luck

getting this disease under control. I also hate not being

able to convey what I want to say. I feel like a

speechless idiot half the time. It helps to know that I am

not alone.<br><br>

No they can't, because reference ranges vary between labs depending on

the reagents and procedures used. They also depend on units. TSH is the

closest to being standard everywhere with common units and direct method

of measurement. The labs often cite 0.5 to 5.0 , but the latest

recommendations (in our FAQ) are 0.3 to 3.0 or 2.5 .

so when I was at 1.33 a few weeks ago I was in normal range TSH but my heart was

having palpitations... so they lowered my dosage.... I went down from 1 grain

to 1/2 grain and no palpitations.... but TSH went back up to 6.7 T4 was 0.7 he

did not do my T3 which ticked me off as that is why I'm on Armour in the first

place.... so they put me on 45 mgs........ today .... and I took the pills at 8

am and sure enough by 12:50 My heart started jumping up again... my normal

range is 60 to 70's and it got up to 112......

I'm at a real loss here as to what do to. Just left the DR's office this

morning with the new plan.. to ease me into range ....and I feel physically

better today less aches and pains.... etc... but the heart thing freaks me

out......

My dr says to lie down, and see if it subsides and if it does then I'm

fine.... but that if it last for an hour or more with a rate that hits 140 or

more go to ER...

He says the palpitations will cease as soon as the thyroid is regulated. But

I have had some nurses tell me " Do not mess with Armour.... the side effects

can be serious and life threatening... " I'm in the 90's now so it only

lasted about 20 minutes.... and I had eaten just before this.. I was also at

the pool but I was not swimming I was sitting on a lounge chair...

I just don't get it.... last year at this time I had lost 100 pounds, felt

great, thyroid normal.. could take my kids anywhere do anything and now... I'm

afraid to exercise or do anything because of palpitations.....

I have got to find a Dr in Texas that treats these symptoms instead of just

the numbers.....

The Heart Dr wanted to put me on Coreg CR 10 mg but since I don't have high

blood pressure ..... and these had stopped..... and were sporatic before.....

my endo and internist say they didn't want me on a beta blocker yet....

Frustrated.... in Dallas....

have you had your adrenals checked? maybe you can't tolerate the higher armour

due to adrenals?

Yes and they were normal... no red flags at all. in fact... I went to another

dr today and said why don't you do the swab and he said because they just don't

do that but that he looked at the test and usually if they are off even a bit it

will show and mine were fine...

but then on the internet it says the swab is better. I just can't afford to

be " swabbed " right now and I don't know who to get swabbed by... my internist

nor endo will do it... My chiropractor told me to go to the health store and

get adrenal support.... and just start taking it... is that wise?

well will they do the blood or urine test? it is better than nothing. do the

self tests on the STTM site, like your blood pressure, standing and laying down,

temps or the flashlight test. see how those results come out and then you might

want to try something mild and see how you feel. i know people have mentioned

licorice root, ashwaganda, siberian ginseng........

Melody,

I am at the same spot you are. I also had the high pulse up to 130 after

stairs. My doctor

took me off of the Armour since May 15th until June 5th. At that time, he also

said he will

ease me back to Armour. He wanted to put me on a beta-blocker, my cardio guy

said that

would be over kill since my pulse went down on its own. I DO NOT want to start

on heart

meds. I had no problem before the Armour. I think we just have to find the

right dose. I

am now in the 60's range and feel fine. Will see after June 5th how I do. One

thing he did

say is that I am very sensitive to thyroid hormone. But than he did have me on

6 - 8

grains a day for a while there.

rapid pulse is adrenal. almost every hypo/hyper needs to support adrenals.

I take Standard Process Drenamin, DHEA and cortef. Licorice helps too.

wow it's all so bizarre. you are in Dallas? I thought there were some good

docs there.

I could only take 90mg Armour, but still felt very " jittery " , but my TSH was

always considered " normal " . I never asked for the results :(

What has helped my adrenals is Drenamin by Standard Process (I think it is

bovine adrenal glands) cortef which I order from England and it's pretty cheap,

DHEA from HFS. Also what helped a real lot is

estrogen/progesterone/testosterone but I am 59 years old and I think my

endocrine system was fried from a lifetime of no treatment.

Adrenal glands also suck up iodine and I love that too.

yes I am always broke from all this stuff, but I am healthier than I was at

age 21!

have you looked at Hormone Solutions by Thierry Hertoghe MD? It's very

helpful.

I get reference ranges from my GP - he just prints out everything for me, never had a problem with it and he even prints out my husbands test results, 'so that you can show your wife' so it is something that perhaps different areas do or just the software that the GP has - or maybe the GP's who don't want you to see it all can print out just the bit they want you to see.

Luv nne

The print out from the GP's (in my experience) is not the same as the one the consultants get. When I can look at the results my consultant gets it does show all the ranges, but the one from my doctor does not. Just has a L or H against it. They do not doctor it (no pun intended) when they send me a copy because I have asked the GP to give me a print out whilst I was sitting in his room so I watched him find the results, click on print and saw it being printed. Perhaps the labs do not think it necessary to give the doctors this information and that just L for below range or H for higher would suffice. So there is no way for the doctor to know how high, low, or within you really are.

A friend of mine has recently had her thyroxine reduced by her GP. Her levels are:T4 0.3TSH 0.15I was wondering what people here think of those levels, anything to worry about?

In that case it must be your area because as I say, I get everything here from my GP, doing some major paperwork sort at the moment and when I come across them I will scan and send to you privately Lilian.

No, GP printed out just as he got it - I saw it on the screen. It looks like this (from an old one):

30/11/2005 ALT/SGPT serum level = 44 iu/L High Dr.JP

Ring the lab Lilian, tell them that as you are ultimately responsible for your health you like to have all the information you can gather and would therefore appreciate the ref ranges for the tests that you don't have them, i.e. B12 and ferratin - surely they wouldn't say no! If they do and you are on good terms with your endo's secretary, perhaps she could get them for you?

Lilian, if you have liver problems perhaps you should check out taking milk thistle to help your liver cleanse itself, yours is on the high side and that cannot be good for you long term - makes me so cross when they say, oh yes you have a slight liver problem, not to worry probably to do with the meds you take................................. end of story, no it is not the end of the story, you need to do something about it.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting, so it is to do with my liver. I vaguely remember someone saying that there is a bit of a liver problem but not to worry it is possibly because of the medication

>>A friend of mine has recently had her thyroxine reduced by her GP. Her levels are:T4 0.3TSH 0.15I was wondering what people here think of those levels, anything to worry about?<<<

I am a bit confused here. It is possible to have a TSH of 0.15 but the T4 figure doesn't seem right. What were the ranges used for the T4?

As the TSH is supressed many doctors do reduce the thyroxine. Your friend will have to make a note when the symptoms start to come back, and what they are, and then approach her GP again with the information that she is getting hypo symptoms again. It maybe that she will not get the symptoms back and that she has been slightly overdosed. There is no way of telling until she has been about six weeks at a lower dose.

This happened to my sister, but when she took her 'diary' of when and how she felt and that she was feeling well on the original dose, her GP increased her dose again.

Now you should be insisting that you are sent to the endo, your GP may not want to diagnose prior to you hitting the magic 10 (same as a heck of a lot of us and it took me 2 years to go from 8 to 10 and I wish I had known half of what I know now which is not a great deal) but your endo could and should. Your endo will get all the tests done not just the TSH and as you have antibodies it could mean that you have hashimotos thyroiditis - go back and insist in writing that you are referred to an endo - do you know what the numbers were for the antibodies and the ref ranges?

I visited my GP for latest results last week and was told TSH was 4.94 but that the endo will not see me until I hit 10. Under my TSH I have a range of (0.5-3.9mU/L).
