I`ve been on this thing all night and sent out some jokes , a nice

little story a friend jad sent me . a message reply and a lengthy reply

to the list moderator- Joan - that I hopes she reads entirely . And no

one got back to me including you . I`m working off my web site so i

don`t know. I`m still incredibly ignorant of the internet.

But I don`t know how I would have suffered this insomnia without it.

4:30 is a very lonely time of day.

Jerry- Akron AIH etc.

morning Sue

[ ] Is anybody out there?

To the group: I've sent out several messages, but the only way I seem to be recognized is if I reply to one specific e-mail. Am I getting through? I can certainly read all the mail passed back and forth between you. I must be doing something wrong. If this message is received, will someone acknowlege it? Sue in Florida

Well, hello Jerry! It's nice to know someone else is up this time of the

morning. I'm in Pensacola, Florida. The family has gone to bed. They got

tired of waiting for the big storm to hit us. Right now it's still a lot of

wind. It's probably going to get worse further into the morning.

I believe I just sent you an e-mail you had intended for Joan. I don't know

who Joan is. The way this group is set up, everyone receives everyone's

mail. I see in your address that you are from Akron. Is that correct? Sue

Hi Sue, how are you today? I live in Florida also, about 45 minutes from

Disney World. A little town called Haines City, we claim to be the heart of

Florida. I joined this group because my daughter has AIH, trying to learn

all I can. Better go for now, I'm on my lunch hour. Hope to talk to you

again. Genny

Sue,

Yes you do need to respond by clicking reply all to one letter. You don't

need to worry about just responding to just that one person if you don't want

to. You can generalize it if you want. Each of us will respond to different

things as they relate in their life. Do not take offense if we may not

recognize you immediately we know you are here. The more you talk the more

you will get response. Yes, you will get all letters to the support group,

this is how it works. Welcome. No one is ever left out.

jerry,

are you up most of the night sitting in front of your computer screen. i

thought that i was the only one that was online early in the am, checking my

horoscope, answering trivia questions, reading my mail and checking out free

craft patterns. then when i get tired of that, still stay on the computer and

play games like mahjongg, kyodai or soliatare. so WOW another person up that

time of the night.

my son in law works nights and the nights he dont work, sometimes he is on

line and we will hook up and imail back and forth. i dont know how to get

into chat rooms and so dont so that, not sure of myself for that. you hear so

much stuff about strange people in chat rooms. my daughter is always

cautioning me about talking to people i dont know, guess that she has a

point, but lord as old as i am, seems that i should be able to tell about

people. but she thinks that i am a " babe in the wood " . lol

do enjoy getting the jokes and stories sent to me and reading the emails from

the others in this group. dont answer a lot of them but when something

catches my eye i do answer it. (just could not think of the right word, my

brain dont work at times) lol

enough just wanted to say hi you night owler.

Hi, . Pensacola is about sixty miles west of Panama City. We've been

there a few times. I remember it being a big tourist attraction, but it's

been years since we were there last, so my memory is very vague. Ya know

how it gets with age. Sue in Florida

That's okay, . I was also sending Jerry a couple of e-mails. We both

were on our computers most of the night. I was waiting for the storm.

Usually I'm not a night owl, but we had gotten off from work early (night

shift). We all left after securing our work place. I wasn't ready to go to

bed yet. Sue in Florida.

Hi linda sorry its late and I just came fom a meeting . yeah, this

insomnia is a bitch

it allows me too much time with myself and my brain is bad place to

spend a lot of time. i`m not actually on a computer but rather webtv.

it has a lot of functions that i`m too lazy to explore, and i`m really

too ignorant of computers to run one. i too am intimidated by chatrooms

and i type so slowly and make too many errors to keep in a flow of

conversation. tonite i`m going to try to stay off line but it has become

somewhat addictive . i need sleep i`m very very tired.

hope to talk again, maybe in the wee hours

thanks for the line..... jerry

linda, i hope you were able to catch the jokes i sent earlier, Lots

earlier, this past morning . Also forwared a very nice lifes lesson that

i particularly identify with about losing ones marbles . get forwarded

lots of stuff like that from spiritual minded friends of mine and i like

to pass them on I never know if any body reads them because they list a

lot of addresses before the actual story or joke and i`m not smart

enough to erase them

if you have like stories or some jokes to share don`t heitate . not a

lot else to do at 4am

stay serene jerry

Jerry,

If you want to forward something without the addresses coming up first. I

think your remote works same as a mouse go to where you want the forward to

begin click it and it should come up in a highlighted format scroll down

until where you want to end. Then go to forward, and address book pick out

the address you want to send click it and then go back hit send.

Gayle thank you . I know it can be done on this WEBTV and what you say

makes sense... I`ve been waiting to catch my daughter here to show me

how to do it.

Laziness is a big character defect.

Also I have people tell me all the time how well I look and I don`t look

sick. I just remember what Crystal used to say--

as that character on SNL--- " It`s better to look good than to

feel good. "

sue,

mom lives in callaway, near tyndell afb where my sister works. i am going

there on 11-7-00 and stay until 12-7-00. and then may go back in jan when she

will be alone for a week. not sure at this time. i take the amtrak and

sometimes it is on time and other things it is LATE. you learn to not sweat

the small stuff, as long as it dont hit a bridge or a garbage truck, it is

fine. i relax and find myself very peaceful. comming home will be strange as

we have a long layover in new orleans. i leave on the 7of dec and dont get

back to sa until the 9 of dec. that is very unusual. but i am looking forward

to it.

thanks for answering back,

  • 1 year later...

Hi ,

My name is Terry and I'm mom to , age 14 (almost 15). was

diagnosed with autism in addition to DS when he was about 6 yrs. He had the

typical autism charactistics...routine oriented, avoided eye contact, had no

peer relationships, didn't/doesn't care if he pleases you or not, spun

everything incessantly, didn't play with toys appropriately, insensitive to

pain, had started to develop speech and lost it before he was two years, and

had behavior cycles that drove us batty!! He didn't sleep for literally

weeks on end, just a nap here and there, he was self-injurious and

aggressive. We tried a whole myriad of medications over the years. Some

would work for a while and then stop; some never worked or made things worse.

When he was 7 0r 8 years old, he was also diagnosed as having a seizure

disorder and the drugs used to control the seizures also had a positive on

some of the behaviors. Now, he takes to anti-psychotic drugs, in addition to

the seizure meds, and his behaviors are pretty much under control. The down

side to all the meds is that his affect is pretty flat most of the time.

That is, his personality is somewhat dulled. For us, it is the lesser of

several evils because we couldn't tolerate him hurting himself and/or others.

He is still very routine oriented and doesn't play with toys appropriately.

His cognitive level is about that of a 12 month old. He has no effective

means of communication. We are working really hard to help him establish

one. Medication is really an individual thing. It works for and

for us but I know there are a lot of parents who don't want to give their

kids meds and I respect that. I have to tell you that we tried all the

therapies and the homeopathic remedies before we decided to try the meds.

One of the docs did try Ritalin for but it didn't work at all. Have

you seen the Disability Solutions issue that covers Down Syndrome/Autism? It

has some really good information that I think you would find helpful. I

can't remember the website address off the top of my head, but I know it is

listed in the archives and I am sure that one of the other gals/guys on the

list will post it when they see your inquiry.

I can't speak for other kids but Dexedrine was the only thing that worked for

Ray and he used it from probably 8 until about 16 and then he sort of

outgrew it. Nothing worked until they tried Adderall. I have since

learned that it is in the Dexadrine family which might explain why it helps

Ray.
