If your drug care plain will pay for Androgel try this first I feel it's the

best forum of TRT if it works.

As for striant forget about it nice house no one home.

Read this about starting on gels.

==================================================

Starting on Androgel or Testim.

Yes this happens a lot you start on a low starting dose 5 grams when your brain

sees the testosterone in your blood even just a little it slows down even stops

sending the LH and FSH message to your testis to make the Testosterone you were

making. So lets say your labs for Total T were 350 you add this dose of gel

your brain sees this and you lose the base level you had before the gel.

Now lets say you need more then 5 grams most do so now all your left with is

what the gel is doing so lets say it's doing 200 so you lost 150.

The reason you feel good is your levels go up that 200 the gel is doing in the

first 2 weeks so your levels go up to 550 in theory. The brain sees this and

you fall back.

Why can this happen it might be how your putting on the gel with Androgel you

need to spread it over your upper arms and shoulders and down your back as far

as you can reach this is half of your dose then do the other side. Just spread

it over the area but don't rub it in.

The other thing is it's not getting through your skin good so you need more. If

you have a thyroid problem your skin will become thicker and gels and creams

don't get through the skin and you need to switch to shots.

I tell men when they go on Gels to retest in 2 weeks because you can end up

feeling worse. Most men just need more gel. Dr.'s that tell men to go on 5

grams of gel and come back in 8 to 12 weeks for labs don't know much about the

use of gels. Dr.'s that treat a lot of men for low T on gels see this happen

and test them again in 2 weeks.

When you go to do labs get up and shower that morning go do your labs and then

put in the gel after your blood test so you don’t spike up your labs. If you

can’t do labs in the morning shower put on the gel but don’t get any gel on

the spot they take the blood from. Do your labs about 6 hrs later.

Call your Dr. and tell him this and that your not feeling good you were but fell

back.

Thanks Phil

one thing I am worried about is that my hair is thinning at the front. i know

this happens to a lot of people but it's only come on in me in the last 6 months

or so that i noticed.

is it down to high dht? if so would would gel make it worse than shots? i

have excess body hair (all over) all ready, that might be high dht right?

is there anything herbal that could lower dht if it's caused by dht? I wouldn't

touch that finasteride for it as i've heard bad things about it.

thanks

chris

ps - i did read once that TRT can stabilise hair loss? I think i read that in

the hertoghe handbook.

Hair loss is a hard one I have this great link about DHT it is miss read by

everyone. When I was on gels my DHT was over the top of the range. It did not

make my hair thin out. Dr. told me it was better to have higher levels of DHT

for libido. When I went on shots because the gels were not getting my T levels

up high enough. I later found out if you have a low Thyroid it can make your

skin thicker and gels can't get through. I do my shots every 3 days it's a pain

in the A** putting on gels every morning to me was better. But when my levels

started falling I had to switch. If you can try the gels first even Dr.

dose this.

I started to use Walgreens Minoxidil and it worked, but caused another derm.,

issue for me. I forgot the term, but it caused my bald scalp to develop bumps

with spotty patches of hair in my back. I immediately saw another Derm., who

prescribed me meds. They have made the bumps go away but I do still have the

spotty patches.

I had to discontinue using Minoxidil in the back of my head. I use it on my

receding hair line now. I wipe away the middle areas due to the spotty hair

scare. I still shave my head, but now I see little hairs in my receding hair

area and it's encouraging. I do not shave this part! Weird I know, but I fear,

if I do, I may lose those hairs.

I researched Nu Hair products. I use the pills and sometimes the serum. I see if

Minoxidil and Nu Hair can be used together safety, but it's too early to detect.

Much like enlarging your penis, this hair regrowth without surgery takes time,

research, and some monies invested.

Be careful with developing Derm., issues like I did and good luck.

Thanks Phil , that was an interesting article

Just wondering, if i naturally made more DHT (as indicated by excess body hair)

could that make my own T levels drop? or is that really not likely?

from that article:

" As I started to explain before, DHT is a strong androgen that will signal the

pituitary to decrease the production of gonadotropins. The decrease in

gonadotropins will then cause less testosterone to be produced which will in

turn cause the estrogen levels to drop. "

I lost most of my hair from a med they gave me to help me void when I had BPH.

I think it was called Hytren I told the Dr. my hair was falling out in the

shower it was not a lot but enough to pick up and through out. He said we all

lose hair that grows back. He seen me getting a very thing on the top of my

head and stopped the med but it was to late. After this my hair kept falling

out even after stopping the med for about 4 more months. To day I get it cut

very short I call it a buzz cut.

Totally off-topic, but *I* personally find men with buzz cuts, little hair,

and even NO hair, totally SEXY!...always have, and always will. To me, men

with a full head of hair don't quite look right...;-)

Thank you for that my wife hates it when I get my hair cut short but I just tell

her every time she gets her hair done how nice it looks.

It seems that in general, guys like their hair shorter and women like it

longer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Phil

Well i got ahead of myself here, the endo i saw today says my Testostereone

levels are normal. He admitted they were low normal, but he said normal. He

said my weight (260lbs) could be causing low SHBG and low T, but i said coud it

be the other way round - low T causing obesity and he agreed it's possible. i

asked about metabolic syndrome (they're not clued up on this much in UK) and he

said yes it's possible you have that but lose weight, and he couldn't give me

metformin either, even though it's like what, 5pounds (8 dollars) a month. said

he couldn't justify it clinically. i don't fully understand my results, don't

know why IGF-1 was high on one. dr said also it's not likely i have pituitary

since all my pituitary hormones are 'ok' - i said but they're all low end of

normal? he said that's good!

i think i probably do have metabolic syndrome, do you agree?

http://www.endocrinetoday.com/view.aspx?rid=67732

should i be taking metformin? testosterone? dunno what to do, can someone

advise please? Thanks.

I wasn't on any meds for these tests (UK date format). I am not srue what some

Is this low? what do these tests indicate? metabolic syndrome as well as low

T? why would IGF/GH be high on one of the tests? could that indicate insulin

resistance?

Many thanks!

I don't know how to read urine labs and my Dr. feels they are not good for

hormones only shows you what your body is getting rid off. I know Dr.

loves them but not all Dr.'s are as good as he is.

I feel your Testosterone, LH and FSH levels are very low to dam low there are

that of a man over 100 yrs of age.

In the files section there is a file called " Testosterone by Age in Men.doc " the

levels for a man over 100 yrs of age is 13.05 nmol/L.

You need to address this problem first then retest when you have your levels up

and your feeling better. Growth Hormone levels take a hit when your

Testosterone levels are this low and from the look of your low SHBG levels. I

feel your Estradiol levels are to low they need to be at about 74.

You can't test Cortisol levels on HC meds all the tests show is you not on to

much HC and not shutting down your ACTH levels.

But your low LH and FSH levels leave me to think your Pituitary is not working

right not telling your body to make enough Testosterone. Still to rule this out

you need to test Estraidol if it's high this can shut down LH and FSH levels.

Your brain would think the high Estraidol is Testosterone and stop telling your

testis to make it.

You need to find a privet Dr. this Dr. your seeing is heart less.

As for metabolic syndrome one would need to get there Testosterone levels up

then test for this.

There is no way losing weight will fix them low levels. It's your Pituitary if

your Estraidol levels are not to high.

You need to post about this here for help in the UK.

Hi Phil

thanks for your reply

i got oestradiol checked about a month ago, it was:

48 pmol/L (low) range: 50 to 218

testosterone checked at same time was:

7.9 nmol/L (low) range 9.9 to 27.8 nmol/L

couldn't afford other checks at same time but my lh and fsh haven't changed in

18 months that i've seen, it was tested about the same time as the tests i

posted-about a week later

from this i think i don't have too much estradiol?

so does this sound likely to be pituitary?

thanks

Yes you feel there is some thing wrong here with your levels if your Pituitary

was working good your LH and FSH levels would be at the top of the range.
