shelly, please do let us know. I saw my psychiatrist last night who is

working with me on medication management, I see a therapist separately,

anyway, he put me on effexor since the wellbutrin didn't do anything for me,

however, he asked me to stay on the wellbutrin, plus I am already taking

paxil AND buspar, I feel like a medicine cabinet, and with all of this, I

still feel very depressed. This is the worst I have ever felt in my life

without some crisis, I am very worried and confused and would be very

interested on what the doctor says, I wonder also if we have malabsorbtion

with the meds?????????????????

My doc put me on 300 mg of Wellbutrin also. I've only been taking it for

about 2 1/2 weeks, but NO - - - I don't notice any difference either. The

only difference I do notice is not positive (dizzy feeling, head feels

cloudy

all the time, I'm very very tired daily). I'll be talking to my doctor

tomorrow and will post what she says.

Sharon, don't take it on an empty stomach for goodness sakes, the dizzyness

will fade in a short while and get up slowly, remember to drink fluids

also!!! Good luck my friend.

Dr. R. has always maintained that absorption of drugs isn't affected, which

has never made sense to me.

Bless your heart! I asked Dr. R about the absorption of anitdepressants

after surgery and he didn't comment on that. He referred me back to his

e-mail he posted here regarding the estrogen patch. So, I'll try that. I'm

going to email Dr. R again and ask him about the absorption of

anitdepressants. When I hear from him, I'll post it because I've heard

others asking the same thing.

Be careful as to weaning. You are right, you musn't cut the pills.

Can you tell your prescribing MD you want to cut slowly, perhaps,

down from the 300 per day (I'm assuming you're taking the 150 two

times a day) to maybe 1 - 100 mg and 1 - 150 mg for awhile. YOU MUST

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. Too fast a taper can be very dangerous. Are you

having problems on the drug now? I know a lot of what the drug can

do, but after working for nearly 2 years on how to get to the bottom

of how it works to blast people, how to wean properly, etc., etc.,

etc., our Wellbutrin scientific study group is still finding more

questions than answers with our research subjects - though we've come

far in understanding some things.

BE CAREFUL. Eat right. We have found taking antioxidants helps as

does drinking lots of water. Wish so very, very much I had more to

offer. I would give my right arm to be able to take away the terrible

pain so many have to suffer and to provide " answers! " Working hard to

get there...

Let us know if you can or have talked to your MD yet. Will be waiting

to hear from you...

Hi,

I tried Wellbutrin about a year ago and I couldn't tolerate it.

I only took 1/4 of the pill and when I upped it to 1/2 I became

very anxious and agitated. I am now back on my 50mg Zoloft.

I hated Effexor. My favorite for energy was Prozac but after

five years I developed HUGE hives from it. I also tried Celexa

prior to Wellbutrin. It gave me energy but it also gave

me anxiety. I feel better now with anxiety and would like

to try it again sometime. I still have my samples!

It's so difficult find various meds to help.

Hope this helps.

Lynn, you do realize that Cheney and others think that SSRIs will

'fry your brain' over a long period of time, although they can give

you some benefit in the short/intermediate term. There are several

others on this list who know much more of the potential dangers of

SSRIs than I do.

Mike and Mark,

I know it really is that good to take anything. However, sometimes

you have no choice if you want to function at all during terrible

times. Thanks for the warning, Mike.

Mark, thanks so much for your input as well. I like yours better,

especially

if you have spoken to a few different doctors about this. Have you been

on antidepressants for long?

I have tried NADH and also Sam-e with no success depression wise

or energy wise with NADH.

Thanks,

I wasn't able to tolerate Wellbutrin--had very very disordered sleep

while on it, even at a very low dose. I stuck with it for a while,

though, and on a regular dose, did seem to have some improvement in

my energy, which seemed very promising. I was disappointed to have

to give it up, though relieved too, due to concern about the " frying

the brain " theory.

As for safety, I'd talked to a couple of docs about it, and it's felt

to be one of the more gentle antidepressants apparently. I'm still

leery of pharmaceuticals in general, with the way side effects tend

to turn out, but it may be worth looking into.

Gee Mark, you don't have to YELL at me. :) She was asking for feed-

back and that was the only thing I could remember. THere may be as

many folks who have benefitted from Wellbutrin, but all I remembered

was the 'fry your brain' comment. I certainly believe that low dose

W could be helpful to some people. I would wager that the 'Prozac

Backlash' was written with the intent of selling books, and I would

also bet that they didn't study low dose users.

Kim, my husband took wellbutrin to stop smoking, a GP tossed him a

sample and his two and half year hell started, he had a bad reaction,

trip to ER finally, changed to paxil, worse, changed to trazedon and

lorazepam, the a week in a psych ward, changed to ativan(didn't know

it was the same as lorazepam - they just doubled his dose)and

serzone, then a switch to the VA hospital, try for a detox there...

changed to valium and effexor and nearly died, then a slow 4 1/2

month taper off effexor, after 7 weeks, he could not handle it, ran

off to the VA, admitted him self for another 5 weeks, where they

upped his valium and got him on more effexor than ever before... and

smoke a pack a day but not anymore. One of the better side effects.

Wellbutrin is Zyban. Maybe you all have heard it under that name? Zyban was the

version of the drug they came out with just for smoking cessation....

Hi Astra

I am on Wellbutrin SR now for smoking. And I am making improvements. I

was a pack a day smoker. Now I am down to a pack lasting me 3 days. It's

not a quick stop smoking system, but for me aleast, it made my cravings go

down. And a big improvement...I am on Wellbutrin SR 150mg a day for the last

2 weeks....My goal is to stop by Feb 25th, My birthday...Ask your dr. about

it....I have had no sides....thus far....

Jacquie

Wellbutrin

My company just anoounced today that no smoking is allowed on their campus

(which is huge) -

even in personal vehicles.

Has anybody taken Wellbutrin for smoking cessation? Does it work?
