Zinc and Copper

I agree that vegetarians probably need more, especially

considering the high level of copper typically found in

our diet. (The ratio between the two apparently being

very important to their proper utilization.)

Aside from liver, which is off the charts, the others

in the best food sources list for copper at this site

are all standard vegetarian fare:

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient & dbid=53

In reading the above, I also noticed they mention that

copper is important for " keep[ing] your thyroid gland

functioning normally. " Fascinating.

I was about to ask this same question. What do others take to get

their 'zinc picolinate with copper' in their regime? I can't find the

two things alone.

Thanks!

zinc affects copper, a great site for info and FOOD SOURCES is:

http://www.vegsoc.org/info/zinc.html

i think?the same site has copper info too. be CAREFUL with copper--its rarely if

ever at this point a separate supp. due to toxicity, and the very low amts

needed--its in almost every vitamin multi; in foods and even in air/soil in many

areas.

this site good re copper; many are sensitive to it and may be dangerous for

some....

be well

>I had a hard time finding this, but finally found 1 from Karuna

Corp; Zinc (picolinate) 25mg and 2.5mg copper (chelate). I bought it

thru a Dr's office I found on the web. Shipping was high, so will now

try & find same brand elsewhere, or thru Karuna themselves. Let me

know if u check out suppliers and find anything, as I am almost out

of my 2nd & last bottle.(Bought 2 to help stretch out that high

shipping...)I have slow dial up so searching alot is a prob for me.

If no luck, contact me & I'll give u the # of chiro that I got it

from. Just hate to pay that much shipping again. I'm happy w/ the

product, and it was a bottle of 60 caps. Other ing.'s listed on

bottle: gelatin, veg. stearine, rice flour. Hope this helps.

Phil,

You asked, if zinc lowers copper why take them at the same time?  I agree, and

just hadn't thought of whether taking them at different times and whether that

would make a difference.

Thinking more about it, I wonder.  If they both have " half-lives " , and these are

short, it would seem to be better to take them hours apart (depending on how

short the half- lives).

But if the point is to keep them from both being present at the same time in the

same place, and interacting (so the zinc doesn't deplete the copper)...both

would need to be absorbed and metabolized very fast so that neither(?) was still

around in cells when the other arrived...N'cest pas?  Is it not so?

Thanks,____________________________________________________________________\
