Guest guest
Dear Dr., Ben-ph, You always have good information in your posts, many of which I archive, but today you have shared an exceedingly brilliant insight on the human condition. I thank you for it. Best of Health! Dr. Saul Pressman, DCh, LTOH ---------------------------------------------------------------- Reply-To: oxyplus To: oxyplus Subject: Re: Migraines Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 10:13:16 -0600 No one ever gets rid of anger. I repeat, you can never get rid of any emotion, you can only change the way you relate to it. Anger is the unconscious expression of passion. To get rid of anger you would also lose your passion. My suggestion would be to concentrate on what gives you passion and recognize that the past anger issues were nothing more than the education and practice of the expression of your passion. I know of no one that was born into an enlightened family that helped to develop all aspects of our personality i.e. auditory, visual, kinesthetic, introversion, extroversion, right brain and left brain or any combination thereof. Most of us experience our lessons as we get kicked, battered, beaten, emotionalized, or traumatized into our growth. Guest guest
Hello, With all due respect.... I don't agree, at least I dont agree as it is explained here. Let me explain....my thoughts / feelings on anger: I find anger is a emotion that comes about if one doesn't learn that their expectations in life are not always met. example....betrayal....hurt....sad... and then anger...maybe bypass and go straight to anger ! Repeated frustrations in trying to accomplish some things.....frustration... then one gets angry or just gives up... and what happens overtime when ones expectations on how life is going, whether work, sports, inventing, romance.... when expectations are not met repeatedly.... then one can build up a predisposition to be angry at the drop of a hat.. then we say... this person has a temper... they are a loose canon ready to go off.....maybe some chemistry is involved here...serotonin... So if a child is raised or an adult learns coping skills... they still can have a passion or passion about life...but...teach them that there are no guarantees and to move on.... as the saying goes " when life gives you lemons, make lemonade " then I shall show you a person whose health... mental, emotional and spiritual... are in balance...no need to suppress or transform anger...cause it doesn't get a chance to raise it's ugly head. Ohhh.. I do get angry...frustrated...but...quickly recognize it for what it is...and I am the only one who can do something about reaction to disappointments...so I am quick to cool and be more reasonable / rational about the situation. Mike S. here with Passion! thanks PS AFTERTHOUGHT.... a suppressed anger incident...or repeatedly suppressing anger...is over time..able to eat away at your psyche like a cancer....manifesting.. physiologically / psychologicaly as a cancer, ulcer, ....migrane... backpain, cfids, fibromyalgia etc... and then of course mental ... emotional breakdowns, all known and unknown mental / emotional diseases. Yes... I am opinionated (not a word?).... but..also open to new ideas to be opinionated about...thanks for this open forum ! Yes, professional help is in order! Guest guest
Regardless the negative emotion under discussion, fear/anger is involved. This is important because I believe only those who are relatively free of fear/anger have a chance to understand the purpose of life, or enjoy the understanding. My inner rage, and bitterness, came from my father. I realized this just months after I decided to purge them from my self. When he died, I buried them with him. I have been extremely happy since then!!! So, I agree with Ronen, in principle if not in tone, that one can eliminate anger from their being. Or, maybe it is just a semantic difference of expressing one's feelings? It can also be said that the emotions are still there, but we just choose not to give them expression. I frequently find that arguments are mostly about misunderstanding the meanings of words. And, that we don't have the same definitions for the words we all use, so misunderstandings are a natural outcome! Anyway, it is true that happiness is an attitude! All one has to do to find happiness is to make a decision to do so! But, I do understand that for each person undertaking this quest, that they may not be having as much fun at the moment of discovery, as I am having now, further down the life-line where experience hopefully becomes wisdom, and I can chuckle! :):) jim ERCCoach@... wrote: > > This is interesting. Guest guest
Mike, You bring up a good point: that stress is not an event, but our reaction to the event. As when two people are in the same traffic jam.... one wants to pull out a gun and shoot people, while the other puts on a CD of Mozart! ;-) We ARE in control! Anyone who says different is sleepwalking! What we can't avoid is other people's anger. And, that is our opportunity to practice our own anger control.... until the habit is no longer there, and there is no anger to control. jim michael c slivinski wrote: > > Hello, > With all due respect....
Guest guest
Hello Jim, right on about other people anger.... and if I hear them put on a CD thats playing Heavy Metal or some Angry / Violent Lyrics Rap music..... my option is to distance myself from them... Guest guest
Getting angry does not mean you harbor anger. And, IMHO, every sentence that has the expression " you cannot... " deduct from the healing effort. In my experience, people set free their anger, as well as fear, and many other primal emotions, and be very much (if not totally) free from them. To cure migraines is the easy part. To heal the root cause of the thing is more interesting. And - of course you can piss me off. Easy - no challenge in that. Ronen. Guest guest
Hi Dr. BJ, I agree with some of what you say here, but would like to add that it seems to me that to have passion based on capacity to love is far more desirable than passion with anger as its origin. Anger is self-centered, while love is others-centered. The focus is completely opposite. Dave ------------------------- Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 10:13:16 -0600 Subject: Re: Migraines No one ever gets rid of anger.
