Guest guest
I was so pleased to see how much you all helped Lori with her questions. I've had 30 mg pills tucked in my drawer for months and was afraid to take them as my doc really has no clue about how to dose. I just asked for the drug and he wrote the script. I did the 4x saliva testing (don't have #'s in front of me) It was very low in the morning, low at noon, only slightly below normal for the 3rd and 4th reading. Now, I've felt bad enough to start taking them. I'm cutting them in quarters so I'm getting 7.5mg in each dose, but I've only been taking morning and noon doses. I am feeling so much better with this amount. Do I really have to take the amount that NTH recommends? (20 -30 mg) Or is it ok to dose as I have been - just where I'm low. Thanks, Pati
Guest guest
I'm not a mod but I can speak from personal experience. I would stay on that dose for the next three days and chart temps during that time. (Phil will have to provide the link for the excel chart). Take your temp every three hours after you wake. So, for example, if you wake at 8, take your temps at 11, 2 and 5. Then average these values. Do this for three days. If your avg temps fluctuate by more than 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit, you will need to increase. You don't want to try the shotgun approach of just getting on a high amount right away b/c that will cause you more harm than good in the long run if you don't need that high of an amount...trust me, I am speaking from experience. They had me on 40 mg to start and my face puffed up and I gained a huge gut and I have acne all over my back. 5 months later, I'm on a much lower dose but I still have all of the side effects from that high dose. Guest guest
Pati, if you feel great on your small dose and are sleeping well, I would not increase your dose. There are side effects, as reported. I've given more details here: http://tiredthyroid.com/hc.html Barb > > > > > > > I was so pleased to see how much you all helped Lori with her questions. > > I've had 30 mg pills tucked in my drawer for months and was afraid to take > > them as my doc really has no clue about how to dose. Guest guest
Hi Pati, Yes I know people that only take it in the morning and noon and did this for some time. But how do you get 7.5 mgs are you cutting 20 mg. pills or 5 mg. pills. The way we tell people to start on HC is to start with 2.5 mgs in the morning and go up every 3 days. So you do 2.5 then in 3 days you add 2.5 at noon then in 3 days you add 2.5 at dinner time when your doing 2.5 mgs every 4 hrs. 4x's a day you start adding it to the morning so this would be 5 mgs and so on. Some people are very low in the morning and 5 mgs dose not do the job so they do 10 mgs. I see no problem in your doing 7.5 mgs 2x's per day. Later if you start to feel weak and shaky add 2.5 mgs every 15 min.'s up to 10 mgs or until your feeling better this is called stress dosing. Read this FAQ's about all this in this link. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/faq/ Also people with this problem feel better putting a 1/4 Tsp full of some good Sea Salt into a glass of water first thing in the morning. Thy this see if you don't feel better some people do this 2 to 3 x's / day.
