Guest guest
Just noticed the wrapper says " do not reshield used needles. " So you're not supposed to put the cap back on when you throw it in the Sharps box? Anyone know why? Anyone know what they do with all the old needles/syringes? Just curious. Barb P.S. I answered a post Friday night and it has still not shown up today (Sunday). Wonder if this one will.
Guest guest
The reason for that is Barb--that in the medical environment, trying to reshield the needle could result in unintended needle stick--the whole syringe, needle attached, goes into sharps container instead, no need to recap the needle...the sharps tainer and all medical waste carted away to locations specifically dealing with such.. sucks the last several days ..EL > > Just noticed the wrapper says " do not reshield used needles. Guest guest
Actually, it's illegal to open one of those biohazard containers once they've been closed. Not that the police would arrest you for anything like that but no one in the medical field would EVER take the lid off of one of those things. All you need to do is drop the entire syringe into the container and be done with it. When the container is getting full, take it to the clinical where you are doing your trial and they will give you an empty one and put that one in the biohazardous waste containers. My doc's office had told me to get a coffee can and just drop them in there and I asked for a sharps container. They gave me small ones that held maybe a dozen syringes or more, but every 3 months or so I would trade her the full one for a new one.Hugs,Teri From: Gloria <gadamscan@...> Sent: Mon, August 16, 2010 11:27:26 PMSubject: Re: [ ] pre filled needles That's exactly what I thought!! The whole thing goes into the container and the container is disposed of by turning it into the pharmacy. In other words ny, the clinical people will not ever be checking the disposal of your needles.
Guest guest
I don't mean anything wierd by this but is there not a opening in the lid itself? Usually there is one. I had not ever seen a regular sharps container that did not have a drop in opening in the lid somewhere to avoid any other sticks from the other needles. It is okay if not because I am sure you are very careful but I am surprised they would not supply better. Guest guest
Just leave it open then. Once those things are closed they are supposed to stay closed. I am having a hard time picturing a sharps container without a trap opening on top. Picture please.Hugs,TeriFrom: Barrett <barrjohnm@...> Sent: Thu, August 19, 2010 2:05:02 AMSubject: Re: [ ] Needle disposal yes you have to open the lid to but the needle in, there is a slot where you are suppose to break the needle before putting it inside. There is no way to put the needle in the box without opening the lid, it is hard to open too, I need to use a key or something to open it.ny
