Sorry; this is longish. I seldom write, but I've addressed broken bones,

neck pain, back pain, TMJ and reinfection here. In my mind, they all tied

together; no wonder-- That's Lyme! Multisystemic!

Yes, I've heard of this. (Deteriorating bones) My friend's hip broke due

to Lyme a few years ago. Whereas I had hip pain at the same time with no

bone damage, she did have bone damage.

She's limping again; says it's the same hip, but she's in denial about Lyme.

And this comes just months after she had to have neck surgery for a

deteriorated slipped disk (or something similar), likely due to Lyme. (She

was in denial then as to the cause, and wouldn't give the surgeon a clue

what's been going on with her, regarding Lyme. He had no explanation for

her injuries, but she wouldn't let on. Neck pain was one of her first

obvious Lyme symptoms!)

Friends, she hates meds (who doesn't), and had a mental history the size of

a set of encyclopedias that's adding annual updates now, I believe due to

long term Lyme.

Lyme causes chemical imbalances that I believe can mimic " life-long "

inherited hormone imbalances. Before I say anymore, say a prayer for her.

She's living a in a life of deception and ups and downs which improved

greatly when she was on antibiotics for Lyme.

It breaks my heart to see her slip like this. She has been like a sister to

me.

Many others around my Lyme endemic area have had neck & back surgery too,

and have had frequent problems with sciatica. Some have " fibromyalgia " as a

primary diagnosis; others know they have Lyme; still others don't apparently

want to find out.

I think the worse cases of Lyme are those that have gone undiagnosed for

years. We all have our reasons why we have this or that symptom. And we

don't think we ought to blame everything on Lyme.

To wrap this up sweetly, I'll just say that when things do turn around as

you undergo treatment for Lyme, you start to get the big picture: long term

Lyme affects every body system. Therefore, improvement can occur in any

body system. (Neurological seems the slowest to improve, though).

You can attack individual problems, but if you fail to get to the roots,

these problems may reoccur. Just be aware of this, and keep your journals

so you can look back and follow your progress, however slow it may be!

And considering how long some of us sit at our computers, it would be wise

for us to start exercising our backs with some gentle knee lifts, etc. I

feel my back weakens if I've been at the computer a while. Also make sure

the height of the desk & the chair ht. & position are good for you.

Just this summer, changing computer desks brought on neck pain in my 14 year

old son reminiscent of his Lyme relapses years before. (I brought him in

for a Lyme check but we concluded it was the desk change, not Lyme). We

found the pain to recur once he was back at his old computer station again;

then in Aug. he got neck pain and unbearable TMJ so bad. This time he was

treated for Lyme with abx & a muscle relaxant, and the following day, a

mosquito bite-like rash on his thigh turned into a bulls eye rash, and then

it cracked and dried up (the doctor saw this, but was not sure if it was a

Lyme rash). Tests were very pos. for re-infection anyway.

One more, a " Praise the Lord " ! On a followup visit, my doc reported to me

that his 3 y.o. son had a mosquito bite like rash that looked suspicious,

just days after he saw my son. He treated his son for L.D. and within a

couple days it cracked up like my son's did! Then he concluded it had

indeed been Lyme (but could have been dismissed, had he not seen Ben's just

the week before!) This is what I call continuing ed. and hands on learning.

I hope all our doctors learn something useful from us!

Hugs,

B.
