You may be able to take time off from work for awhile......maybe even a few months at first...or the full year....under the FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT.....not sure if where you work is covered... I believe that small businesses are NOT COVERED......(depends on the number of employees) It will only guarantee that you would still have a job there if you feel better and want to go back to work full time.......you MAY BE PAID........because of your disability......but your doctor would have to verify that is writing. I have had recent experience with my hubby taking family medical leave for ME WHILE I WAS ON IV MEDS.....and for that time he was NOT PAID. He also took it because he injured his shoulder and was disabled....and for that HE WAS PAID. It is difficult to get social security disability. Took me four years...and then only with my congressmans help!!!! My social security check is better than nothing....but I would MUCH RATHER BE WORKING!!!!! Those on the list who remember me.....I have not been active in a while.....I have been severely ill and depressed since the day after Christmas.....with various post IV symptoms....some very new and horribly painful. I have not been able to see my doc to hear what he has to say about it....we have no heater in our car and its been freezing the days of my appts.....I have one this Thursday and the weather is supposed to be warmer....so pray!!!! I still will use three comforters to cover me.....but the cold definitely makes my PAIN SUPER SUPER SEVERE!!!!!!! I have been living on soup and jello and rice cakes......not able to eat.....I suspect my problems are all from ANTIBIOTIC USE......and further digestive disruption and peripheral nerve and other nerve damage.....and throbbing of my major organs.....kidneys, liver, pancreas, heart and brain. Please Pray for me. Also, in the middle of all my pain and depression my hubby is now out of a job!!! (long story) and is searching for a new one...so financial difficulties are worse and med insurance for drugs will run out soon........I am trying to leave it in God's hands.....but I feel like HE is not offering them to me. This is one of the few times I have been on the internet in weeks. I went from severe insomnia to sleeping all day and all night!!! I know there are a lot of great Christian folks out there.....so if you can remember me and my family in your prayers maybe a joint effort will get God to listen and help...... Thank you all so very much in advance. your friend, Fransea NJ Seashore
Guest guest
Hi Fransea, Sorry to hear you are not doing well, I sure can identify, I was not participating in the list for awhile myself....doing somewhat better now. About SSDI....You can apply after 6 months of continuous unemployment due to illness, and if you expect to be out for a year. I did. As a matter of fact, the sooner one applies the better, as the date of your application is the date you will be paid retroactively once you have applied. You and your family are in my prayers, hope things look up for you financially and medically real soon. Guest guest
Fransea, I will defiantly pray for you. By the sounds things can only get better, not any worse. I'm sure everyone here will keep their fingers and toes crossed, along with adding extra prayers everynight. I will be thinking of you. Take Care Amy

Guest guest
fran .... i hat e to disagree......u may not recieve the benefits until 1 year however u may applie at any time the sooner the better i was told by my lawyer.....i applied prior to being out for one full year......i was judged totally disabled as of the date i last worked ....then the year was counted from there.....i than recieved retro from that (the second) date......sue for your best bet contact a lawyer well versed in social security...there are adds for them in tyhe phone book and papers/......they donot get paid unless u collect and then s.s pays them out of ur retro........most people(specially lymies) need them.....as we usaully need to go ,like marta in front of a judge..... Guest guest
Reid, You are right about SS. We just had an SS lawyer at out support group, and as far as I can see, the laws are really stiff and the sooner you file the better. A lawyer is your best bet. A lot of the facts were twisted...and untrue.... and it took awhile to get that mess fixed....that is where my congressman came in!!! They read my entire file and saw all the errors the judge had made....then my congressman insisted Social Security take another look at my case...and viola!!!! I passed!!! In the meantime we found out the judge was 87 years old and had been " retired " .....Thank God!!!!!!! I also agree that a lawyer who is VERY experienced with SSD manage your case.....if only to get things expedited on your behalf. My attorney was assigned by my long term disability company....and he created more problems and delays for me also.....so its best for anyone to stay on top of your own case.....know whats going on......and God Bless You in your attempt to get what you worked so very hard for for many years!!!!!!
