Guest guest
- I have had hearing sensitivity since Lyme too. Not so much pain but alot of noise or loud noise makes me very anxious and jittery. Never used to bother me. And with all the Neuro stuff Im having right now it is really bad. Even my dogs barking makes me nuts. As far as coping with it I have no idea. I try to stay away from noise but with 3 kids 2 of them teenagers that isnt always possible. Guess its one of those things we have to learn to live with and try to get thru. Guest guest
, Not only do I experience what you described, but bright lights, especially fluorescent ones, and certain noises makes me crazy. Its called Hypersenses, and is very common in many diseases, especially Lyme. Guess its a neuro thing. As to how to deal with it, I wear sunglasses a lot, but the noise thing I haven't conquered yet, I just try to avoid being around lots of noise. And I used to work as a bartended with live bands, lots of noise, but it never bothered me before getting Lyme. I also can't tune things out anymore. I used to be able to carry on several conversations at once, and type at teh same time, and still watch a t.v. show, had no problem, now its impossible to do that. Good luck, hope someone else can give you some better advice. Vicki, Md >From: =?iso-8859-1?q?=20Parsons?= <ilikeub40@...> > >For the last 7 years I have had Lyme Disease. Guest guest
Hi, ,Boy, can we relate. and I suffer from this cyclically. And since we love music and are/were in the Karaoke business, it really sucks. We like to eat dinner at places where there is live music, but there are times when we can't get out of there fast enough. (Music doesn't have to be loud to be good.) But in January, I had a cold that settled in my ears. I experienced diminished hearing and extreme pain. I thought it would go away quickly, but it hasn't. The extreme pain has gone away, but I feel like I'm in a barrel. Couldn't sing for two weeks because I couldn't hear myself, or know if I was on key. Certain frequencies are indeed worse than others. (Listen to a small child's shriek (sp?) and watch me come unglued.) Also, if musical equipment is set with the "highs" too high, I have to hold my ears. Fortunately, our Karaoke partner recognized this when I was at my worst, and toned the highs down for me. My LLMD says this is not just a simple cold, and is very typical with Lyme patients. Referred me to an eye, ear, nose specialist. If it keeps up, get a referral. You don't want it to be permanent. Guest guest
Hi , I have been having trouble lately since I am on IV and herxing, prior to that I used to hear noises when lying down, but I always attributed that to all the meds I was on. Lately, loud noises have bothered me, I attribute it to the herxing though. I am on Meclizine three times daily which really helps with the dizziness and nauseated feeling and keeps me on balance I think too. Guest guest
Hi , I have had hearing sensitivity since lyme began. I use all kinds of things, especially ear plugs. If you look real hard you can find some that block out above 28. My body jerks from sound when I lay down, even the sound of a phone on TV. It mostly happens when I am Herxing, really sick, or really tired after work. I also take Chealated (sp) Magnesium and the sounds don't bother my jerks as much. The ear plugs allow sounds to be muffled, but due to gov " t regs they don't sell ones that are completely sound proof for safety reasons. They really do work Good luck, Connie, MI
