In a message dated 99-12-19 00:58:46 EST, you write:

<< It depends on whether you

have just LD, the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria (Bb) >>

Dear Barb & All,

Okay - now I'm confused. Can you explain, please what the difference between

" just LD " & Bb is? Doesn't the Bb cause LD? Different strains, perhaps,

that also cause LD?

Anyway, thanks for info on these co-infections.

Blessings & velcro hugs,

Chris

Hi

Yes LD is caused by the spirochete named Borrelia burgdorferi.

There are different specices of spriochetes. There are also

different kinds of ticks. The coinfections are caused by other

bacteria and some protazoals, also from a tcik. So you have it

correct. That is about the easiest explanation. A tick can carry

and transmit more then one bateria and/or a protzoal to cause

infectious process.

Barb,

That was wonderfully concise and detailed. Thank you. Do you mind me asking your

background? Are you a doctor or a nurse, or bacteriologist or something? I'd

like to take this to my doctor but he always asks where its from. I was tested

for HME but not HGE. I was negative for HME. But I have read that Ehrlichia can

also cause Leukopenia, and I've dealt with that for over a year now. In

addition, I have all the other symptoms you listed as well as the ones for LD.

So I'd like to get him to test me for HGE, but he doesn't feel like its

necessary. I've read other articles like yours that have stressed the need to

treat co-infections first, and I agree, it makes sense. Thanks for all this

great information.

Vicki, Md

Take this to your doctor and don't be afraid to ask him questions.

So much is new in treating LD and we still have so much to learn.

Me included!!

Sincerely,
