I didn't want to send this out before you all read it. A DRAFT RESPONSE TO

THE MEDICAL EDITOR AT TIME: NEED YOUR FEEDBACK:

Dear Dr. ,

Given that I don't know where you're starting from in terms of your

familiarity w/ Lyme disease, I'll start with several links that cover the

microbiology of the disease, the medical dilemma and the politics, all of

which are complex. If you have ANY questions about any of this information

please ask.

Your attention to this issue could change the lives of thousands of

desperately ill children and adults in this country. Thank you in advance

for your effort.

1. The Complexities of Lyme Disease by Tom Grier: (a tutorial on the

microbiology of the spirochete, testing and treatment issues)

http://www.lymealliance.org/Medical/MedCategory5/Med7/med7.html

2. Probably the best article on the many problems and politics in the

medical community concerning Lyme:

http://www.fairfieldweekly.com/articles/lymedisease.html

3. An article written last week in the Boston Herald about an NIH related

protest organized by the Lyme community which summarizes the VERY CURRENT

debate:

http://www.bostonherald.com/bostonherald/health/lyme11031999. along w/

hundreds of Lyme sufferers stories posted on a guestbook last week linked to

the Herald's story, including a long letter from an anonymous doctor

describing his clinical experience w/ Lyme disease:

http://www.bostonherald.com/guestbook.mlasalandra/guestbook.html.

4. An astounding collection of Lyme links on every aspect of the disease

imaginable including hundreds of Pub Med abstracts maintained by an man from

Southern California w/ Lyme:

http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Oasis/6455/lyme-links.html

Please let me know if any of these links are not working.

Again, thanks so much for investigating. I'm sure I speak for many people

here: I hope that this will lead to the publication of a truthful and

thorough report on Lyme in Time magazine (in the near future).

Sincerely,

beth Feldman

San Francisco
