Remediation and saving mold-contaminated belongings

Recently an administrator at Aerotech Labs told me that mold-

contaminated personal belongings can be salvaged by a reputable

remediation company, provided that the belongings were not water-

damaged but merely dry-dusted with spores. I get differing opinions.

A well-known lawyer said that EVERYTHING must be discarded. Can

someone answer this once and for all? How is it done? How much does

it cost? I'm getting weary with living out of a laundry basket, while

most of my things sit in storage waiting for answers, and the storage

bills add up. I only know I get sick after too much time spent at the

storage place. Aerotech found small amounts of cladosporium,

alternaria, penicillium, and aspergillus on tape samples I sent.

Does anyone know of a " reputable remediation company " in both the

Detroit and Chicago areas?

Any help is much appreciated.

I am getting much the same story here- I am also in the Chicago area.

Well known lawyer has told me to get rid of it all but an IAQ

professional tells me that the items which were not water damaged can be

cleaned,. One of the companies recommended is Brouwer Brothers in Alsip,

IL Phone:708-396-1444

There is also a place called Action Cleaners in Rockford. Try going to

the ASCR site here http://www.ascr.org/referrals.asp to find more

professionals.

I was told that hard surface items can be cleaned while soft goods or

things like antique furniture that was damaged by water from the fire is

not salvageable.- drapes I should think can be dry cleaned-couches and

upholstered items I was told are trash. Books, photo albums must be

trashed. The computers I figured out how to fix- just get a new case and

power drive- (about $45) . Monitors- replace them- the dust gets inside

them thru the air holes. Other electronics such as TVs and radios, vcrs

I don't know yet.

My query is about storage places- the longer the stuff is stored without

remediation the more damaged it will become, won't it?
