Hi all,

I am so pleased to make this announcement. " Twice an Angel, Living and

Dying

with Lyme Disease, The Umphress Story " is a new book on the struggle

of

one family and their daughter with Lyme disease. (Good Earth Publishers,

ISBN

1-890050-39-3, 342 pp.

It is an incredible story told in first person by her mom who kept

impeccable records of every procedure and treatement through the years from

the

time was diagnosed until her death.

Written by Sue Umphress and Marilyn , a journalist and editor, it

is

a wonderful story of a family and of a community that were frustrated and

baffled by the illness and the way was dealt with, but mostly the

story

of a wonderful girl who inspired everyone.

I have put the ordering information below.

From any profits, the family plans to create a scholarship at a local

school

and donate funds for Lyme disease research.

This book is such a good read for everyone including the medical

profession

and so timely, considering the issues we all face. I hope you will get a

chance to read it.

Ann

Here is the Forward of " Twice An Angel "

<< In 1988 Umphress was unknowingly bitten by a tick. When tests

did

not provide a diagnosis, doctors labeled her problems psychiatric, a common

catch-all for Lyme patients.

Hospitalized often from November, 1988 through May, 1989, lost her

memory and could not walk, talk or eat.

After years of challenging therapies, emergency treatments and a seesaw

of

medications, 's family celebrated " a cure " with an interview on the

Christian television segment, " Learning By Heart.; " was chatty,

reflective, sincere, tender and funny.

battled the ravages of Lyme with dignity and spunk. She graduated

from

high school with honors in 1994. She died that August. She was 21.

Much of 's history was recorded on hospital charts and prescription

labels. But, as in all great stories, the dearest lessons are written

deeply

upon the hearts of people... This is 's story, as told by her mother.

" Reading 'Twice an Angel' is an inspiration not just for Lyme patients and

their families but also those in the medical profession entrusted with their

care. The reader can see how aggressively fought to live, and

appreciate

how precious she believed life to be. "

I ordered the book yesterday, priority mail, I will let you all know when I

get it and whether I would recommend. I understand that the patient dies at

the end, not sure I would want a child with LD to read that part.

Hugs,

Marta

>handling of this disease. CDC and NIH both have admitted that only 10% of
