Guest guest
I am 95 pounds and five feet two inches minus half and inch. I started on Prednisone in 94 and I gained in my face and tummy. Prednisone works with your metabolism and thyroid specifically. It will take anything you eat or drink and actually processes it and deposits fat to other parts of your body. I was 150 pounds at my zenith. Because of a nodule on my thryroid which caused me to suffer hyperthyroidism, I rapidly began to lose weight. I attribute the over active thyroid to my weight loss. The thyroid and hormone production as well as metabolism are all effected by prednisone. I treat my dosage of 7 milligrams a day with great respect. I never go over 10 mgs. I taper up slowly and taper down even slower. The weight gain usually happens when you are ordered to take a lot at once and then stop. Your body cant handle the imbalance. I split my dose up during the day. I take 5 mg when I get up, because I really need the relief during the day, and then take the remaining 2 mg at night when I take my other meds for sleep. My night meds work for sleep and pain along with the small amount of prednisone. When I had to go up to 9 mgs I can see it in my face right away and my stomach too. I am tapering down again to my maintenance dose. If I have the node removed, I fully suspect I will gain weight almost overnight. Scary thought. I treat prednisone with both awe and fear, and handle it with great care. Be well, Deborah
