Guest guest
I went to the pain doc who specializes in the spine. Not only do I have a herniated disk (which he thinks is old and incidental), but I also have a fracture. A week from tomorrow he will do an epidural cortisone injection (they will not sedate me for this one) and if that does not immediately and completely relieve the pain, they will later do a Vertebroplasty where they put acrylic cement in there to keep it from fracturing all the way through. I would be completely sedated for that one. Until then it's pain meds, rest and the heating pad. The lesson here is if you take prednisone, take your calcium, take your calcium, take your calcium. He said my bone density is so bad from the prednisone that this will probably not be the last fracture I have. Nina
Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles and I hope the epidural does the trick so they don't have to do the more invasive thing, but whatever I hope you get relief. In addition to calcium also take Vitamin D. Also Fosamax or similar drugs are supposed to help rebuild bones. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Nina Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Monday, August 15, 2005 7:45 PM Subject: Doc's appt. I went to the pain doc who specializes in the spine. The surgery is pretty non-invasive these days. They just barely nick the skin instead of opening you up like they used to do. It's an outpatient thing now, too. > In addition to calcium also take Vitamin D. Also Fosamax or similar drugs are supposed to help rebuild bones. God bless. Yes, you have to take Vitamin D as well. I'm on Actonel and have been since February. However, I've been on the massive steroids (including several IV pushes of 1 gram) since last August. I've asked the doc for some 1 mg. prednisone tablets so I can wean off one mg. a week. That's going to take a while since I'm on 30 mg. a day. But I hate prednisone and all the horrible effects it has had on me. I sure wish I could take methotrexate and some of those other drugs. I was going to try Remicade, but have to wait for this back problem to heal as you can easily get an infection from a fracture. Nina
