> I wanted to pose a few female issue questions... After my last pregnancy two years ago I had some heavy bleeding, very normal. My RA came out of remission and proceeded to kick my butt. Now I am still continuing to experience very heavy periods with very large clots. I am just wondering if this may somehow be related to meds, inflammation etc... Has anyone else had this type of experience while taking the usual rounds of prednisone, mtx, or Humira?

I wasn't diagnosed with any diseases at age 25 (I'm 54 now), but went through the heavy periods and clots. Ended up having a total hysterectomy. Keep your ovaries if at all possible.

Nina prior to being pregnant I was on the pill and only had my period once every third month. After my son was born I experienced exactly what you are describing and it continued on until just recently. (the last few years) I am thinking it was hormonal and now that I seem to have my hormones balanced my cycle is regular, without the incredibly heavy days with clots or PMS.

Sorry Sam I replied to Nina's reply.

Since I had the same symptoms and by using methods to reduce hormonal

imbalances have cleared them up, I suspect it's hormonal. Was for me and I

went through that heavy period for 10 years before getting it figured out.

It's nice to have my life back, on the heavy days (1 1/2 - 2 days) I

couldn't even allow myself to sleep more than an hour or two, it was that

heavy.

If I may ask, what types of methods did you use to clear up the hormonal imbalances? I too am homebound 2 days a month, which I can work around being a stay at home mama, still not pleasant getting up every hour at night. I am always open to options...Thanks for the input,SamOn Aug 14, 2005, at 12:15 PM, Dorey wrote: Sorry Sam I replied to Nina's reply. I am 44 and was told by my PCP that I am peri menopausal. Having a hyperactive thyroid doesnt help. I went through a bout of it, hotflashes and severe body changes. At that time I was flaring badly also. I had been started on arava around that time and I think that actually set it off. I noticed that caffiene made my symptoms worse, and I found that taking lemon balm, made into a tea from the leaves helped. The symptoms stopped about two weeks ago. I am drinking alot of water, eating alot of fruit and green veggies, my favorite are field greens and spinach. I had to switch from hot chocolate to chai tea because the chocolate seems to bother me. I found that trying to balance your body with natural herbs can be beneficial if made into a tea. If you want to explore that option, here is a link that might be useful. http://www.holistic-online.com/Herbal-Med/Hol_Herb_for_diseases.htm Be well all, Deborah

I spent some time with a lady who went through menopause at 30. This isn't a great thing because of all the side effects of menopause and she was challenged. Out of this she learned how to cope and correct the hormonal imbalances women suffer during menopause.

Some of the most important things she stated were having a healthy diet, meaning staying away from the items listed as "white death". Ensuring that when the body suffers stress and equal period of rest is allowed to recover because stress causes hormonal imbalances. The adrenal glands (stress glands) must be in good working order and the body must be eliminating waste very regular. As she put it, 3 trains go in the tunnel, 3 trains come out otherwise there is a crash inside the tunnel. When we are not eliminating the waste our bodies begin to absorb nutrients from the waste products. The body absorbs estrogen from the waste remaining in the body. The body must be receiving enough quality nutrition each day to support healthy hormone balance.

Since I have detoxified my body, done a parasite cleanse (this is ongoing) to assist the adrenal glands because they can not function normally if the body is filled with parasites and ensure that I have regular (2 - 3 bowel movements per day) I have not suffered any hormonal imbalances. My cycle is what I would consider normal, still 2 days are heavy but not clotting and not keeping me almost housebound. I have no symptoms of PMS and in fact have no signs that my cycle is about to start, it's wonderful. I was "almost crazy" for 2 days of the month where I would suffer from anything from depression and weepiness to total claustrophobia (and I am not in any way claustrophobic) for those 2 days. My kids and I just called it the wacko days, or mom's having a calmocazy (spelling) moment. I hated it because I was out of control, I would lash out at people I loved and shake with anger about the littlest things. That is all behind me and I know this because friends are asking me what has changed. I'm so relieved, at times I thought I was going crazy.

I deal with stress, both through the nutritional product I choose to take and with meditation everyday.

I eat well, and I will share in private the detox diet and food program that I use if you are interested.

I ensure that my body is eliminating the waste even if occasionally I need to support my body with herbal treatments.

I make sure I rest, knowing that we need a certain amount of deep sleep each day to optimize our health.

I ensure that my body is receiving ample nutrition each day.......and I give extra on days of high stress, meaning if I work physically very hard or come across a mentally stressful situation.

The last thing I do is learn everyday more ways to ensure my mind is growing and I'm positive and proud of who I am.

These are all the things this lady taught me when we spoke and they have worked for me.

Mine was caused by cysts on my ovaries. I lost both. I took hormones for 15 years, then quit.

Sam:

I had this problem after having my two kids (now 11 and 12.5), and prior

to being diagnosed with RA. Keep in mind, I wasn't on any RA meds

(other than minocycline for non-RA related reason).

I too was told I needed a hysterectomy, but thought it was too drastic of

a surgery. I found a new doc who suggest having an ablasion done. It

was day surgery, had it done a year ago....and there is virtually no

recovery time. I haven't had any problems ever since.

Maybe research the procedure and discuss it with your surgeon. It may

be an option for you.

Best of luck,

No, but I did get more regular as I lost the weight. I am every 28 days now,

whereas before I may miss a month, or be 2 weeks late.

Hi Kelli,

I hadn't had a " period " in over a year (I'm a bit older than you...) and

after surgery I started getting them regularly again for 6 months. Now

Anutie Flo has gone to visit with you!!!

Thanks for taking her in!!!

Hey Kelli, Wanted to add my 2 cents... I know the heavier you are the more chances you will not have a "normal" cycle.. The more weight I lose the better my cycles get. It's a good thing that your having a cycle, I don't think your body is "playing catch-up" it's more likely than not that your body is trying to find the right rythym. I once had an OB/GYN tell me when I was larger than "most women would love NOT to have a cycle" I told him he was FULL of it and never went back. Your cycle is the bodys way of "taking care" of itself or "cleaning house" so to speak-sorry for the details.... I worked as a midwife in Texas and we would hear/see women who were concerned about their cycles.. Give your body a chance to find it's own pace.. You are losing weight and it may take sometime for your womenly parts to know whats going on. If it happens next month/cycle then I'd go and get checked out to make sure everything is ok.. Thanks Donna, that helps me out quite a bit. I am going through the

cramps right now...ugh, they were horrible today, so I did take one

Aleve...I know we need to be careful of the Napraxon but it works

wonders on cramps that Tylenol doesnt. Anywho..thanks for the info I

appreciate it. :)
