Guest guest
Hi, When I had carpal tunnel my hands would go numb and were very painful...I'd lay on my side or my back in bed and use a pillow to prop up my hand above my head..I think it helped. Now I still have a habit of sleeping that way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 Eileen has had it really bad in the fingers and wrists for the last couple weeks. She's been sleeping propped up on the couch, and can only fall asleep if her right arm is above her head, heh. She sees her Ortho tomorrow. Just commiserating, Don & Eileen Marcia Stoyle wrote:
Guest guest
Thanks . But she has tried sooo many positions and the arm (just the right one) above the head is the only one where she can sleep at all. She got a cortisone shot in her right shoulder today so maybe that'll help. The ortho thinks it might be bursitis (plus RA) in the shoulder. She did physical therapy for it but that didn't help too much. Don & Eileen Dorey wrote: > Don I'm so sorry to hear this. Guest guest
I know that is painful. In 1997 i was having shoulder pain, went for an MRI and there were bone spurs in there. Had arthroscopic surgery and the surgeon said he took out a bone I didn't need anymore and cleaned out my shoulder. I went to physical therapy for a couple months afterwards and still could not raise my arm over my head. To this day I still can't lift it over my head. I also think I needed that bone...my purse or bra strap falls off my left shoulder too easy . Good luck to Eileen, hopefully the shot will be all she needs and feels better soon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 Donk wrote: Thanks . Guest guest
It has been a muggy, rainy day here in NH. I can't make a fist with either hand because a couple of my fingers are so swollen up and sore. I've been dealing with the middle finger on my right hand, that is swollen and seems to be permanently bent. I can't straighten it out. No more flipping " the bird " , it points back at me now! hahaha My doctor mentioned seeing an orthopedic doctor and having it " released " , has anyone done that? Guest guest
Hi Don, has Eileen had a cortizone shot in the shoulder before? With my first shot in the shoulders I got this terrible burning shoot up through the back of my neck and head, it was almost unbareble BUT after that I learned that if after I get the shot I take a massager and massage the shoulder every 30 minutes to stop the cortizone from pooling I didn't get this pain and was left with great results, no pain. Good luck Eileen, I hope you can get some rest now. Guest guest
Is there anyone in the group who has had any luck getting rid of the swelling in your fingers, either with meds or some other way? I am just at a loss as to what to do and apparently the docs dont know either. I have thought about taking a Medrol dose pack (Im down to 4mg of Pred daily trying to get off but Im desperate) I am also on MTX which hasnt seemed to help either. Hand doc gave me shot in palm and my hands were back to normal for one day but the next day fingers were swollen worse than ever. (He said shot in palm wouldnt help my fingers and I guess he was right) Any suggestions are appreciated. a

Guest guest
Nothing helped with my fingers until I went on biologics. I know this situation with your hands can be so painful, stiff, and discouraging as well. I wish you all the best! Guest guest
Enbrel has done it for me. I no longer have any swelling in my fingers. Early in my RA journey, they looked like sausages. Guest guest
My husband has found relief with Enbrel also. And when he had to stop using it due to an infection, he really could tell a difference. Once he's back on it, he is soo much better.
