I have an Akita...double coated...which means white shag carpet four

times a year! LOL! Never again a double coated indoor dog! I am

going back to a dobie or even an english mastiff. I have had three St

Bernards...also double coated. But I have had enough. Short hair from

now on. Cody is 13 years old, and when he is gone, it is short hair

from now on. I can deal with little short hairs on the carpet, but

knee deep in undercoat four times a year is the pitts. We live in AZ

so our pets are indoors most of the time. Up until last year I also

had an australian shepherd...also double coated. And to top it off,

they took turns shedding. Just about the time the Akita finished

blowing his coat, the shepherd would start.
