Guest guest
Hello everyone, my name is Sue. I have been a member here for a while but have not felt the need to post much until now. I have been diagnosed with Ra for almost 30 yrs and I have not encountered this problem before. I have read that fevers are not uncommon with people who have Ra. I have not ever encountered this before, other then when I was what I call legitimately sick. Now over the past three weeks I have been running a low grade fever. It is not a constant thing. On again, off again. It has run anywhere between 99.3-100.6. I take Tylenol for it and drink lots of water, but I am wondering if this is something to be concerned about. Until last night there hasn't been any other symptoms that went along with this, just the fever. Last nite I had some nausea too. I can't afford to go to a Rheumatologist right now. At $30 for just an office visit, it is more then I can afford right now and we moved to Tx last yr so I have to find a new Rheumay anyway. I was wondering if any of you have had this problem, is it something to be concerned about and what do you do about yours. This is getting real old real fast. Maybe someone here can recommend one. I saw one near Baylor in Dallas, Dr. Diane Petrone, who is outstanding. Unfortunately she stopped taking Medicare so I can't see her anymore. Now I see Dr. Reyes in Denton. He's good, too. Nina
Guest guest
Hi Sue, you didn't say if you were on any medications for your RA. If you're on an immunosuppresant med, a fever that's not tied to an illness could mean you have an infection the doctor should know about. (Might be necessary to stop such a med for a little while or to otherwise treat the infection.) Guest guest
Hi Sue. I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling very well right now. I wish there was more I could do. It's not right that you should be denied the care you need because of your financial situation. When I was newly diagnosed with RA earlier this year, I had been running a low-grade fever off and on. I still get this, but it's rare now. Don't know if it's because I'm on pain meds all the time and don't notice it or it's more controlled now or what. As for the stomach upset, it could be from the meds you're taking. Some of the meds for RA can cause problems with the stomach. Go online and research anything you've been taking - prescription or not.....and see what the side effects are. Wish you were feeling better.... --- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " Sue B " <suenicorn@y...> wrote: > Hello everyone, my name is Sue. Guest guest
If you are taking NSAIDs (like naproxen sodium) it will suppress a fever. When I had West Nile last year, one of the reasons it went undetected was because I had no fever because I take 1000 mg naproxen a day. Sharon > > Hello everyone, my name is Sue. Guest guest
Sorry my response is so late but I just got this today. I haven’t heard of fevers spiking because of stopping Prednisone, but I have heard of fevers being a common occurrence with Still’s Disease (also called adult onset juvenile rheumatoid arthritis). You might read up or ask your doctor about that. I hope you get effective treatment. God bless. From: Rheumatoid Arthritis [mailto:Rheumatoid Arthritis ] On Behalf Of har8han4 Sent: Friday, January 16, 2009 9:39 AM Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Fevers I started taking Prednisone. It was everyday for 7 days and then do one day on and one day off. As soon as I did the one day off my fever spiked to 103.6. Is that normal. With autoimmune diseases do we get fevers all the time. It seems that in the last 4 months I have had so many fevers. The doctor said the immune suppresant that I have been on for 1 1/2 years isn't doing any good anymore.
