Guest guest
Hello Nina , So sorry praying for you here . later john Nina <ncampbell@...> wrote: Went to the rheumatologist this morning regarding the severe back pain I've been having for 11 days now. He believes I either have an infection in my spine (which will mean several days in the hospital with an IV of antibiotics) or a compound fracture of the spine (which is what he thinks it is). That would mean surgery. :-( They are trying to arrange an MRI of my back (hopefully tomorrow or the next day) so they can find out for sure what it is. Will let you all know as soon as I know something. Pray it's an infection because back surgery is not something I'm a good candidate for. Lesson here is NEVER take prednisone (which has destroyed my bone density). The doc is also checking with Medicare regarding how much they will pay for Remicade infusions for the autoimmune diseases since the cost of Enbrel is out of the question. Should know something about that in a couple of days. Nina Start your day with - make it your home page
Guest guest
I've been having a lot of lower back pain for several days. Chiro helped but then I had wood to stack, so I'm back to square one. See him again on Saturday. Does anyone know any exercises that would help strengthen that area and work out the pain? mary Hi, , First I'm so sorry your in that kind of pain -- back are so fickle at times! If it's a muscle thing and not a structural thing, a lot of rest and a little stretching exercises. How much pain are we talking? Are you able to walk? Sit? I pulled a muscle in my back and all I could just howl in pain -- walking was painful and sitting was absolutely out of the question. That was the worst, but usually it's just a stiff twinge when I overdo. Laying down with your feet on something with your knees bent -- so that it looks like you are sitting on a chair while laying flat on your back is relaxing for the back muscles.(Clear as mud?) For actual exercise: lay on stomach, completely flat, and raise leg toward ceiling -- you don't have to raise it very far at all. There are many others, but this has helped me in the past the most. ***Use ice; never heat*** You wouldn't heat a sprained ankle, right? Don't heat a hurt back. A reusable ice pack that stays flexible is great, but a bag of peas in the large ziploc works in a pinch too. (Corn and mix veggie bag has pointy edges LOL) For pain, if you want homeopathic, arnica montana works well. Normal drug stores straight magnesium works amazingly well. Don't get those crappy Doan's pills -- sure they take the pain away, but they do nothing to promote healing. Magnesium does wonders with this (but if you have high blood pressure check with your doctor first). Hope this helps a little and go lay down! Guest guest
Quite often rest is the way to go, not exercise. See if that makes you better. Be sure to roll on your side and press your hands on the bed to get up. What do you take for pain? Chamomile? Sue I've been having a lot of lower back pain for several days. Guest guest
I would also think about MSM and complete tonic (with tumeric)... both would be good for you every day. Do you walk any? as in exercise?\ SuziTone <tone102@...> wrote: Sue, Hope all is well with you. Maybe rest is best. For myself it is not. I can see maybe for the relaxation. Lots I do not know and hoping to learn from this wonderful group and all these loving knowledgeable people. Suzi What is a weed? Guest guest
The only exercise I get right now is Curves. It's been too hot to walk during the day and I won't walk alone at night. I also have fibromyalgia and a lot of pain/fatigue with that, but this newest one is almost unbearable. I know walking would help. marySuzanne <suziesgoats@...> wrote: I would also think about MSM and complete tonic (with tumeric)... both would be good for you every day. Guest guest
It is painful to walk, but better than sitting. It hurt to sit before I hurt my back. The chiropractor didn't say anything about structure, he just said I was really twisted. Whatever that means. He did some adjusting and it felt better until I did the wood. There is more to do. We put up about 10 cord a year. This is left over from last year and we still have to order more. It would have been done over a month ago but my DH smashed h is finger between 2 pieces and he wasn't able to finish the project. marySneezinggecko@... wrote: I've been having a lot of lower back pain for several days. Guest guest
I have it in my tonic, but also keep it on hand in capsules. Add it to foods (last thing added before eating).. add it to drinks... I like the capsules... gave 2 to a guy here at work who was complaining about his back/shoulder... came back later in the day and said..."Man, those sure helped........but it sure makes your pee smell" ... lol. Guest guest
Speaking of pain, when I first brought to my herbalist the Nerve Sedative formula to mix up for me, she asked before anything else, "is someone in a lot of pain?" I guess in larger doses, it could be used for pain. I think???? Peace, love, laughter 8/3/05Tone <tone102@...> wrote: Sue, Hope all is well with you. Maybe rest is best. For myself it is not. Guest guest
Thanks! I remember hearing about that and doing it long ago. I will try it again when I get home. maryLee HENDERSON <leo@...> wrote: some of my mail is not reaching me so I end up in the middle of a thread before I get a post on it. but here is what helped me with my back more than anything and I have an herniated disk, 4th and fifth lumbar: I lye on my back on the floor, bring my knees up to my chin and hold them with both arms, puling head and shoulders toward them .. sort of rolling up like a pill bug : )... and then rock back and forth slowly. this puts the spine in sort of a traction, stretching those tight muscles and relieving the pressures on the nerves. I even go so far as touching the floor behind my head with my toes, but that can come later when you get limbered up. I told my boss about this and he didn't believe me so went to special DR and paid him $90.00 for same advise LOL!!! grany lee I've been having a lot of lower back pain for several days. Guest guest
Gee, it gets rid of a lot of my pain -- which is neurological pain, and I had never even wondered about it until reading your email. Guest guest
That is what is truely so wonderful about this forum! No one else DOES understand! When I had my last surgery, my boss... an Optometrist and his wife did not understand at all. They acted like me asking for less hours (Wednesday off so I could REST at home), or time off or return part time after surgery and recovery... was all some plot to make THEIR lives miserable. They refused everything. The final straw was, one afternoon, the wife came back from lunch and commented jokingly to my hunched over, pain-riddled body " Gee, Marty, you look shorter than you did this morning! " I gave my 2 weeks notice that day. Just remember Peggy, we totally support you! Hugs, Marty <jpgunlimited@...> wrote:... I am choosing to have surgery, but I am choosing it to save my back! I just wish they would be quiet and understand instead of running their mouths about things they don't understand! Peggy
