Guest guest
I think it might be something like port-traumatic stress syndrome. You may be stressed during the work week and generate adrenaline to help cope with the stress (much like taking Prednisone) and then when the stress stops, you flare (much like a sudden decrease in Prednisone). Stress-reduction exercises may be helpful. I don't really know anything about how they work but I hav heard good things about some simple things like deep breathing or a few moments of meditation. Someone else will have to help you in how to do it but I think that may help. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, July 22, 2005 5:13 PM Subject: Maybe I am just paranoid but... I feel like the Humira is not working as well for me anymore? I have been on it for about a year and a half. This Friday and last I have had really bad RA pain. I know the weather here has been crazy but I have been at the point where I had no RA pain no matter what the weather was. I believe I have read here that certain drugs have stopped working for people. I already tried Enbrel...what's next? Also, my flares have both come on Fridays, after a 5 day work week. I wonder if work is just doing me in?
Guest guest
If you are interesting in trying the exercises Harold mentioned I would love to help. Breathing exercises are simple, take very little time and provide amazing health benefits. As well meditation is the greatest way to deal with stress, although taking a little more time, but once you find the time in your life to meditate it becomes the nicest part of the day. Almost like an escape from the chaos we all call life. Guest guest
Hi and Harold, Yes, you are probably both right, my job is very stressful, but having seniority, two of my best friends there, a short commute and leaving at 5:00 on the dot makes me stay there. I think it would be more stressful starting a new job and having to prove myself, give 110%, etc. I do know I should be meditating and I do have some tapes. Also, my acupuncturist has given me some literature about Jin Shin Jyutsu, which basically is do it yourself acupressure (no needles) to release tension. I am off this week so I am going to try to get into all of it! Its hard to shut my mind down. I am a Type A + personality! Guest guest
With a type A personality it is unlikely that a change in jobs would improve things, and might make it worse. However, you need to learn to take life and work less seriously. You remind me of a young chemist who worked for me years ago. We were getting ready for an important meeting and she had an assignment to do but through no fault of her own she couldn't get it completed. She was very stressed out about it because she was used to accomplishing everyting fully and on schedule. I saw her concern and said, "Hey, don't sweat it. We have a lot for the meeting so we can do alright. The sun will still come up tomorrow. You did what you could so don't worry that you would like to have done more." Aim high but accept what you can really accomplish and be proud of it. Don't sweat that you can't do more. As a boss I wanted people who set high standards for themselves because they were willing to drive themselves more that I was willing to drive them. I tried to be that kind of employee and I encouraged others that way. Those who did not drive themselves were given my career reorientation discussion (also known as shape up or ship out). It worked for me and I hope it will work for you also. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2005 8:13 AM Subject: Re: Maybe I am just paranoid but... Guest guest
Hi there, I dont think you are paranoid. I was on Remicade for 12 months and although it might have worked for a little while, by the end of the 12 months, i was flaring every 3 weeks. i have just started Humira and i am crossing my fingers that it will last for me. so far so good, i still have some pain but not nearly as much as before. Hang in there. Suzie > I feel like the Humira is not working as well for me anymore? I have been on it > for about a year and a half. This Friday and last I have had really bad RA > pain. Guest guest
Everything I've read has said these medications have a tendency to wear out......in other words, stop working, and that the best bet was to mix Methotrexate with the biologic medication for a more long lasting effect. Guest guest
Thanks , I do take Mtx with Humira and also took it with Remicade, it is part of the way that you take them - they have to be combined with Mtx. Maybe our bodies get used to these drugs and stop have the desired effect. it is very hard. all we can do is cross our fingers that they keep working. or else do what i hope to do in the next 12 months - have a baby!! that seems to solve all problems, at least for 9 months anyway!!!! Guest guest
I am on remicade and plaqunenil and imuran i don't take methotrexate and i get a long just fine i took methotrexate a lond time ago by its self and it didn't work but that was before they had remicade Sherrie > ----- Original Message ----- > From: suzie > > > I do take Mtx with Humira and also took it with Remicade, it is part > of the way that you take them - they have to be combined with Mtx. > > No, they don't have to be combined with methotrexate. A lot of people can't and won't take methotrexate. I talked to a 40 year old man in the doc's office this morning. He's had RA since he was 20. He took methotrexate for a while and it virtually destroyed his liver. So he's on Enbrel now without the methotrexate. I can't take methotrexate and the doc has never said it has to be combined if you're taking Remicade, Humira or Enbrel. > > Nina
