Guest guest
I just started Remicade in April and have had none of those symptoms. In fact, I can't say I have any noticeable side effects, but I am feeling so much better. I had been on Humira for a couple of years. gloria -----Original Message----- From: Harold Van Tuyl <hvantuyl@...> Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 21:32:13 -0700 Subject: Re: new member I've been on Remicade for about two years and haven't had those symptoms. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, My name is Rob and I am new to the group. I have NOT been diagnosed with RA, however I have been sent for the blood test a couple of times and it has come back negative both times. Here is a little of my history: I am 34 years old and have complained about severe aches and pains for several years. Nobody paid much attention until I was diagnosed with Osteonecrosos in both hips. I had surgery for for that this past February, though it does not appear to have been successful. I also have asthma. The ON was thought to have been caused by high dose steroids for asthma attacks and lung problems. Now, I am still complaining about joint pain throughout my body. I have had numerous x-rays and mri's to see if the ON has spread to other joints. According to the results, it has not spread. I am trying to find an answer as to why I feel like this. It's not all the time. I usually go for several days and feel fine and then I have a few bad days. This cycle keeps going but usually goes a full cycle every 1 to 2 weeks. I am looking for suggestions. My main concern is that when I have the severe joint pain, I also notice shortness of breath and a tight chest. Also, the joint pain is all over my body and most of the time there is just a dull ache, but then there are days when it feels like my bones are in a clamp that just keeps getting tighter. Thanks for listening and any suggestions are advice would be appreciated. Rob
Guest guest
Welcome to the board but I'm sorry you have reason to be here. You don't say what kinds of doctors you have been to but if you think it might be some form of arthritis you should be seeing a rheumatologist. There are over 150 different kinds of arthritis so it takes a specialist to figure out if you have one or more of them. For RA there are seven criteria developed by the American College of Rheumatology and any four of them qualify for a diagnosis. One is blood work, one is x-ray examination, and the other five are either patient history or doctor's examination. The criteria are: 1. Morning stiffness, lasting for at least an hour, present daily for at least 6 weeks2. Arthritis of 3 or more joints, lasting for at least 6 weeks3. Arthritis of the hand joints, lasting for at least 6 weeks4. Symmetric arthritis, lasting for at least 6 weeks5. Rheumatoid nodules6. Positive rheumatoid factor (blood test)7. Joint changes on x-ray With the multiplicity of problems you have it might be a good idea to try to get to a major clinic like Mayo or s Hopkins so a group of specialists will look at your case and decide on a path forward. A good teaching hospital might be another good bet. I can't give you any suggestion about what the doctors might find but I hope you get some relief. God bless. Guest guest
I live in South Florida where it is humid all of the time. The only other places I have lived are north central Florida and New Orleans, both of which are also extremely humid. I find that humidity itself does not cause me problems, but changes in air pressure caused by moving fronts will exacerbate joint pain. Also, I do not tolerate cold (anything below 65F degrees) well. I have found that tai chi has helped improve circulation and reduce my overall swelling in my hands whereas most other exercise has made it worse.Vicki <hoyt91@...> wrote: Hi, I've been lurking for a few weeks and have decided it's time to introduce myself. Will Humira help with fatigue? I live in Minnesota and it is pretty humid right now. Does the humidity cause anyone discomfort? I have to have the air on because my joints swell and hurt during humid spells. Guest guest
Hi, I started humira on 8/2 and the next morning I woke up with all the stiffness in my fingers gone, and much less pain. When I went back for a check up 3 weeks ago, my RD said that some people it works that fast on, others it can take 3 months to work. Very rare does it work the next day. I've had a lot more energy and less fatigue. One of our friends came over when I was working in the yard and commented "look! she's using a yard blower!" :-) They tell me they see a difference. There are mornings I wake up and my fingers feel a little stiff, but it's only for a few minutes. Side effects I've noticed is burning after injection (I don't think we left the injection out of the fridge long enough), more headaches than usual, and some back aches, and my scalp seems more sensitive than usual *shrugs* Good luck! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 Vicki wrote: Question: does Humira have any side effects and how well do you think it works? Guest guest
I need to lose a lot of weight so I need to find an exercise I can tolerate. I have a treadmill and an exercise bike. My toes and fingers are the worst, especially my feet. I work as a cashier and some days it is really hard. I noticed that the barometric pressure is what causes flares for me. I always know when it's going to storm. I haven't heard from my doc yet if he has set up the Humira script. I know the insurance co said it has to have prior authorization. How often do you generally take Humira? Guest guest
I don't take Humira. I was on Enbrel but lost my insurance coverage due to graduation from law school and now cannot get coverage. Consequently, I am off meds other than otc nsaids. However, I am very careful in eating well and resting enough so that I don't get out of control. I have been doing tai chi since Februrary -- I take a two hour class twice a week and practice on my own once or twice a week. I pay for the class monthly so I have incentive not to skip. I like the class because we work on something different each time so it's not boring. It also helps me relieve sress in way no other activity has. I sound like a zealot but it has improved my level of health better than any meds including Enbrel. Plus, at approximately $100 a month, it is cheaper. I had trouble walking becasue of my feet and trouble biking because of the pressure on my hands and wrists.Vicki <hoyt91@...> wrote: I need to lose a lot of weight so I need to find an exercise I can tolerate. Guest guest
Hi! and Welcome! I live in New York State on the south shore of the Great Lake Ontario. Our weather either comes off Lake Erie or from Canada. the humidity does not effect me much, but the barometer is a killer.....I have been called "Mrs. Doppler Radar" as I can predict a storm before the local tv weatherman = LOL! gentle hugs, MarciaAndie Fleming <Andie_Fleming@...> wrote: I live in South Florida where it is humid all of the time.
