These studies you are concerned about have been discussed on this board. I've

been around the autism community on the internet long enough to know that Orac

is a nutcase....and please don't make assumptions on what I've read or haven't

read. I have read Orac's blog, Autism Diva's, what Offit has had to say,

etc. I didn't leave a rock unturned when I was looking for the reason my child

was so sick. It started getting real obvious that certain people want to help

our kids and have facts and that others who don't want to help them deny their

problems even exist.

I had the same dilemma until I read these studies (you may have to register to

get to the first two links):

It would appear the risks of this protocol are small; however, the benefits

could be significant.

Hope this helps!

You come across like a troll or astro-turfer. There are lots of other questions

to ask and biomedical paths to follow. Why are you focused so quickly on

chelation? Pfffftttt.

A TROLL OR ASTRO-TURFER I have a 2 year old that I just started on the gf-cf

diet and 2 days in to it his eczema is starting to clear up I love my son thats

the only reason im here but I also dont have a closed mind either so i look at

both sides of the fence when i read chelation causes cognitive disfunction in

mice i get a little leary but i already ordered the dmsa, Advanced Essential

Minerals, and the lipoic acid to start home treatment why and i so

concerned with chelation is because the longer I wait the worse these toxic

metals can affect his abilities to recover so please call me whatever you like

but im here to learn and make the best judgements i can to help recover my child

and the stories from the other members with children who are almost there are my

driving force

Don't worry, dad. Some just jump the gun on judgements. There is a lot of

misinformation out there and you need to weed through it. I'll tell ya, the

scare-tactic articles made me leery at first, too. When I gave my son his first

dose of DMSA, I sat by his bed for an hour waiting for him to seize up and stop

breathing. I was pretty paranoid! Of what? I'm not sure; just the unknown.

Chelation caused cognitive dysfunction in mice because they chelated with way

too high of a dose and used it infrequently (from what I remember about this

study). So, they kinda showed us the DAN! protocols might do damage! :)

You are reaping the benefits of biomedical already with the excema improvements.

That's good to see.

Let us know when you are ready to start the first round.

Ah, let it go. I was called an Idiot when I first joined a GFCF group back in

2003, and that person ended up being quite a good Internet " friend " in time.

Apathy, just so you know, I read the exact same study and was questioning it

too. As far as I recall, I don't believe the mice were supplemented to replace

minerals they were using, they were probably given large doses NOT according to

half-life but more like a DAN! protocol, what about Candida - do mice get that?

(I have no idea just questions to ask yourself when reading stuff like this).

There are many reasons this study is not an accurate representation of what DMSA

does if used properly. A Doctor's Data Hair Elements test can tell you if your

child has lead or mercury toxicity. If he does, DMSA is appropriate treatment,

has been used safely for many decades.

Well international medical teams seem to think DMSA is OK in this very tragic

case below.

UH, Actually I had the same question!!

It is difficult to compare apples to oranges. I wonder if they had neurological

deficits or anything wrong with the neural crest in their cells?

I do not think that was mentioned.
