Guest guest
My son is 14 years old and has PICA. He has started eating/ripping his T-shirt at night that he wears (has to wear it because he has a scoliosis brace over the shirt). I think some of it is just habit and some is compulsion. His PICA issues decreased when we did aggressive yeast treatments and returned when we stopped. I have put those protocols back in place and they have not improved. I have put in place behavioral plans to entice him and that has not stopped him. I am considering " painting " on some vinegar to his shirt at bedtime so that it is aversive. I have also (laughingly) considered a dog cone or football shoulder pads.... Has anyone else had a problem similar to this? He picks at his clothing during the day, but is redirectable. It is the night thing that worried me.
