Guest guest
I personally think gluten and casein are capable of crippling a person who is intolerant of them. Sounds like he has high acid, inflammation, lactic acidosis from what he is eating. I believe the heat he is feeling is his body trying to attack the food like an invader. The mucus is trying to carry out what his body is not tolerating and that is why it is in the stools. I would put him on GFCF, soy and sugar free diet immediately and start giving cultured vegetables to help heal his gut. Give very warm epsom salt baths to help him detox from the foods he is not tolerating. If he has eaten these things recently or if he gets them in the future, I would give activated charcoal right away. It may be good to start an SCD diet for awhile to calm his gut (chicken soup, cooked vegetables, etc.). Liz > > I'm really concerned about my 7-yr old NT son, whom I've posted about before. Guest guest
Comments interspersed. S S Worrisome symptoms in my son, what is this? Jim, Andy others? Posted by: " Andree " mam78@... iam2l84t Wed Jun 9, 2010 7:15 am (PDT) I'm really concerned about my 7-yr old NT son, whom I've posted about before. He has had several symptoms daily for weeks now and I could really use some help with ideas on what could be going on with him. For starters, he has an oil slick in his urine and this has been going on for months. Things improve with ox bile and digestive enzymes but doesn't go away entirely. *Is he on any any oil supps (CLO, fish oil, etc)? For a few weeks now, he feels unwell systematically within 30-45 minutes of eating. He says that he feels hot in his head and chest, has a headache, a tummy ache, sometimes sore legs too. On a few occasions, he seemed like he was going to pass out, he got really weak and couldn't walk. Sometimes, it looks like there is mucous in his stool (but not always). He is also weak muscularly, gets tired easily and is emotionally reactive. He has adrenal issues too. Any ideas on what can cause all of these symptoms, in particular the ill feeling after eating? It's got me quite worried now. He takes supplements before meals at home, which seem to help including HCL, some Houstons' enzymes (Trienza), ox bile and Vit C, E, mag and milk thistle. I've noticed that his symptoms seems worse after eating a meal with meat or dairy, especially cheese. He had a meal of pizza and ice cream a couple of weeks ago and he felt so bad afterwards that he could barely walk. My husband had to carry him and when he couldn't carry him anymore, we put him in our 3-yr old's stroller! *Consider avoiding meat and dairy to see if that helps. I saw a doctor yesterday to insist for tests but he said that he couldn't connect all the symptoms and that some were likely " psychological " ! (What the heck?) He prescribed urine test, stool test, blood test and an h. pylori test and an abdominal & rectal ultrasound. DS has been taking HCL for a few weeks without any complaints then he started complaining after taking it. I reduced the amount of HCL and now wonder if these supplements have messed with his natural production of stomach acid. Does anyone have a view on this? I've never read any precautions about this with HCL. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. *I would be concerned about the ox bile.

Emotional issues meant milk intolerance and yeast overgrowth here. >>I've noticed that his symptoms seems worse after eating a meal with meat or dairy, especially cheese. Guest guest
Thank you all for your replies. I have some bloodwork back now, with a few values that are out of range or at the limit. Can anyone comment on what the results suggest? I'm just listing results that appear either high or low: Neutrophils 1319 /mm3 (range 1500 - 7500) VGM 80.6 mm3 (range 85 - 95) Fasting blood sugar 0.84 g/l (range 0.70- 1.10) UREA 0.42 g/l (range < 0.45 ) Creatinine 6.0 mg/L (range < 8.0) Total proteins 72 g/l (range 60 - 85) Sodium 138 meq/l (range 135 - 145) Potassium 4.8 mEq/l (range 3.5 - 5) ASAT 39 UI/l (range < 40) Gamma GT 14 (range < 49) Lipase 51 U/l (range 7 - 60) LDH 411 UI/l (range < 480) CPK 77 UI/l (range < 25 - 195) Ferritine 35 (range 10 - 80) DS feels hot, has a headache, pains in the legs and feels unwell after eating meat, dairy, starches (pasta, bread) and sweets. He has appeared OK on a few occasions after eating fruit & veggies, but this isn't always the case. He has never had this in the past so what the heck is going on? All further input is welcome. > > I'm really concerned about my 7-yr old NT son, whom I've posted about before. Guest guest
Please reread my post. You have to stop feeding him things he doesn't tolerate. Try starting this diet for a few weeks and then adding in more foods one by one and taking note of any reactions: http://www.livestrong.com/article/96514-oligoantigenic-diet-list/ > > > > I'm really concerned about my 7-yr old NT son, whom I've posted about before. Guest guest
Thanks again Liz. I did read your post and had already stopped the foods that are problematic when I posted a 2nd time, but was recapping the info about problem foods. I don't think that DS's problems are strictly food-related since this is a sudden onset of many reactions to a broad selection of foods that he has always tolerated (except for dairy which was problematic as a toddler). There is something bigger going on but while the tests are ongoing to find the cause, I've stopped the problem foods of course. Food intolerances don't cause neutrophils to drop and he has also had other symptoms too which I didn't list (like fevers out of the blue for no apparent reason). I'm not chelating DS at the moment so that's probably not the cause. Any further ideas welcome, though at this point, I've scared myself silly looking up possible causes of drops the combination of all DS's symptoms. > > Please reread my post. Guest guest
This sounds like yeast to me also....probably yeast flaring up big time. Before we started SCD for bacterial overgrowth/yeast, my son would say, " My legs aren't working " and fall onto the ground crying. We have been SCD for over a year and he still has occasional tummy problems after a meal. Meat and cheese are acidic which creates an environment for yeast to thrive. > > For starters, he has an oil slick in his urine and this has been going on for months.
