Guest guest
> We have been at odds with our DAN this week, as I have told her I no longer wish to have challenge tests, but she became very offended, as if I did not trust her. I am trying to the the best, safest approach for my son, who is 38lbs, and young, and very toxic (flu shot during pregnancy, fish consumption, and full round of vaccinations). We also have methylation and autoimmune conditions in our families. She feels that without challenge testing she will not know when to stop, and also which metals to go after? > Sorry to hear that. She was at least getting closer to the right track protocol-wise, why not get it 100% correct with more reasonable doses, correct timing and avoiding challenges? > Does anyone have any thoughts on this? According to Andy you don't get that much more excretion with a higher dose but may see more side effects. It depends on your child and how he handles it but you might want to try lowering the dose. Guest guest
Many of us chelate without a doc for this reason. Dose should be based on weight 1/8-1/2 mg/lb so even 25 mg is a rather high dose for a 3 y.o. Good for you for doing your research and refusing additional challenges. It's good that you don't trust her if she wants to do dangerous things. Challenge tests may be how she makes her money. S S AC Chelation vs DAN ND's adapted protocol Posted by: " fionasthoughts " fionasthoughts@... fionasthoughts Thu Mar 18, 2010 10:00 pm (PDT) Hello, everyone! I am new to the board, with my dear son 3 years and 3 months, PDD-NOS diagnosis 10 months ago (May 2009). Hair testing and initial DMSA challenge (through a local ND DAN!) prompted us to move forward with DMSA (just added ALA) chelation last October. We have done 10 rounds -- 7 with DMSA, 3 with DMSA and ALA. We had been on a 3 days on 11 days off schedule. Our ND, at the offset, told us she used an " adaptation " of Andy's protocol -- 50mg of DMSA, every 4 hours, 3 days on, 11 days off, then, after 4 months, adding 25mg of ALA, same schedule, in addition to the DMSA. I recently read Andy's book and also have investigated further, and I feel that the DMSA dosage is too high. I lowered it last round to 25 mg of DMSA, and 25 mg of ALA and noted better results with my son, particularly as we did 3 hours vs 4, day and night -- we are willing to do this. We have been at odds with our DAN this week, as I have told her I no longer wish to have challenge tests, but she became very offended, as if I did not trust her. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? We are so limited in DAN resources here, and she is the " best one " -- however, my son is more important. We wish to chelate each weekend, 3 days, every 3 hours at the 25/25 dosage -- does anyone have any thoughts on this? We wish to continue to chelate to the 100 - 300 rounds it takes for the autistic symptoms to vanish -- he is already responding beautifully. Guest guest
Did she explain her reasons for adapting Andy's protocol? My first guess would be so that people would " need " her services rather than chelating on their own. S S ------------------------------------------------------------ Improve your career health. Guest guest
Fiona, Ask the ND what repeat challenge tests are supposed to show you. Does she have an answer? Ugh. I went through this, to a smaller degree, with our first DAN! doctor. I just didn't mention I was using a lower dose and giving it more frequently. But, she was just fine with me not doing a challenge test. Personally, I would leave that practice more so over the attitude than the protocol. Becoming offended is a bad sign and you'll probably continue to butt heads in the future. If you need a practitioner for prescription, that makes it a bit tougher. I feel for you! Guest guest
DAN! doctors usually tell parents chelation with small doses by Cutler would take ages. So they say... In fact, I have a few friends who started chelation per AC - and have tremendous improvements. From severe autism to more like an Asperger - just in 1.5 years. On the other side I know as many parents who decided to chelate faster - by DAN! protocol, using IV chelation. They claim they got some improvements as well after 3 years of IV - nothing that impressive though. So, DAN! protocol is more dangerous and can be very expensive but definitely not faster.
