Guest guest
Gelatin seems to help with both constipation and diarrhea -- firming things up if they are too loose and helping you go if constipated. So that might be worth trying. I think roughage (stuff like lettuce) would also help with both. Good luck with this. Guest guest
What are you doing for probiotics? Do you do any enzymes or other digestive supports? From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of emilynk.chan Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 2010 6:16 PM Subject: [ ] Help - constipation with diarrhea Hi Listmates, My son use to have at least 1 BM everyday whilst he was on prescriptive antifungals (diflucan or nizoral) though the consistency is not always good (sometimes mushy and quite yellow). I stopped the antifungal after being on them for 5.5 months (found out through stool analysis that his gut was inflammed) and ever since his BM has not been regular and his tummy is bloated. Shortly after I stopped the medicine, his stool turned pasty like also. I try to help him pass out stool by increasing his magnesium citrate and introducing 's aloe vera juice. That helped with having a BM almost everyday but the stool was never formed, usually pasty and at best was very soft and mushy. I also started giving him enzymes with meals and treat yeast with mucostop and MCT oil. Nevertheless, things just gotten worse as he was having more incidence of runny stool followed by no stool the next day. His tummy was very big and hard on days when he cannot pooh and I was worried about impaction. Tried oxypowder for 3 days (on top of his aloe vera and magnesicum citrate at reduced dose) and that gave him BM everyday but very runny. I stopped the oxypowder and resorted back to aloe vera juice and magneisum citrate. For the past week, he could only go every other day; and when he goes, he passes out initially liquid BM followed by a massive volume of very soft stool. His tummy shrinks a little in size afterwards but is still very rounded and appears bloated. I am also worried that the explosive liquid stool scared him off and he may be hold back his BM. I am really stuck and depressed. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to make him regular again. Looks like I have messed up his gut big time...... Guest guest
Hi , I don't think you have messed up. You were trying to help your son in best possible way you could try. Coming to your current problem, Oxy powder is last resort for severe constipation cases. I personally don't think it helps regularity. Below are the things I personally tried on myself and also on my daughter with Autism. I suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for the last 3 years and now I am fully recovered. My daughter who had occasional constipation is now very regular. 1) Fiber supplement such as Clearly Fiber ( foodscienceofvermont.com/clearlyfiber.html ). Start low and increase slowly. Clearly Fiber is a mild fiber that doesn't cause much discomfort. 2) Water Therapy (how to drink water) : This worked best for me. It is very simple. Give at least 2-4 full cups of water as soon as he awake in the morning. Don't give any food until at least 1 hour. Then between meals, 1-2 cups of water. Basically, drinking plenty of water away from food. This causes bowel to function properly. 3) Aloe Vera juice: This heals inflamed gut and makes your son very comfortable. Don't buy cheap brands as kids cannot tolerate the preservatives in them. The best ones are 's Aloe Vera and Lily of Desert brands. Even though they are pricey, they are worth every drop. These 3 simple ways are not only totally safe, but very effective. Guest guest
I give him 1 cap of mutaflor on an empty stomach in the morning. In addition I also give Klaire Lab's Detoxification support and Factor 4. I try to keep him on about 200+billion cfu everyday.  For enzymes, he is getting half cap of Kirkman's multi-spectrum enzyme, half cap Houston's peptizyde with each meal. Additionally I also give 1 cap of mucostop for his runny nose problem.  BTW, he had a watery BM just now and I found a cluster of undigested veggie inside. Could that be clogging things up (my son does not chew his food thoroughly). Should I give him more veggie digesting enzymes? This sounds like you are giving him too much magnesium, which is causing diarrhea, but the yeast is causing constipation. Try something stronger for addressing the yeast. I used biotin and GSE here with good results. Dana
Guest guest
We have the same problem with our youngest boy. Caused by yeast. Give lots and lots of Enzymes. With meals, between meals, etc... We also started giving fiber and I think it is helping. The clearly fiber dissolves in Juice or water. It's 100% Acacia soluable fiber. I found some organic acacia on vitacost and ordered it. We'll see if it is the same. 1/3 the price. Guest guest
These are the ones we use. Just basic broad spectrum enzymes. You can buy much more expensive ones. http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-BioCore-Optimum-Digestive-Enzymes TJ ________________________________ From: emilynk.chan <emilynk.chan@...> Sent: Mon, January 11, 2010 12:03:02 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Help - constipation with diarrhea  Hi TJ, What enzymes did you give your son?
