Guest guest
I know Dr Newbrander starts off with B- 12 only for about 5 weeks to heal the gut.At the same time he does GFCF.Many of the folks in Jersey are happy with the results! I have been at this for a while and sorry I didnt doit like this. Deb K > > We have had one visit to our DAN doctor, and my daughter was started on cod liver oil, DMG, and Super Nu Thera without A and D while we wait for the initial test results (blood, urine, and stool). We have our next appointment in about a week to discuss these results. Over the last few days, my daughter seems to be displaying a lot of symptoms of yeast...teeth grinding, night waking with inappropriate laughter, belly more bloated. Then I read about the B vitamins (which is what Super Nu Thera is) causing yeast overgrowth unless they are taken in combination with folic acid and something else (can't remember). If this is true, why would our DAN doc start her on Super Nu Thera without knowing the results of testing for yeast??? By the way...my daughter has been on Super Nu Thera for a couple weeks now, and the DAN doc started her on it b/c he suspects mitochondrial dysfunction which he said can be treated with B vitamins. > > Does anyone have any information/experience regarding this??? > > Thanks so much, > Emerson > momma to 2 little girls >
Guest guest
Yes, B vitamins can cause massive yeast. My son cannot take many B vitamins. We have him on B6, that's all. He can't take a multi-b. And Super Nu Thera put his yeast through the roof, no matter how slowly we tried to start it. If you do a search you will find many kids cannot tolerate SNT. > > We have had one visit to our DAN doctor, and my daughter was started on cod liver oil, DMG, and Super Nu Thera without A and D while we wait for the initial test results (blood, urine, and stool). Guest guest
I don't think B vitamins cause any yeast. Supplements like Glutathione cause yeast. Sugars, Fruit Juices, Sodas, Sweets, Starches cause yeast, not the vitamins. I think your daughter is not fully tolerating one of these 3 supplements. I suggest (as a parent) to stop all the 3 just for a day. Then start with only one for 2-3 days, then add then 2-3 days, then add next. Cod Liver Oil(CLO) is not usually tolerated by many young kids. My daughter also didn't tolerate it when she was 3. So, we tried fish oil instead, she did well with that. Fish oil doesn't have Vitamin A & D like CLO has. DMG is tolerated by most of the kids. Some kids got good speech quickly (not my daughter, she spoke only after 3 months of Chelation). Super Nu Thera is mega B6 multi vitamin. Not all kids tolerate mega B6 so easily. It takes time for their bodies to tolerate it. We used Kirkman's Spectrum Complete, which is regular level of B6 and easily tolerated. Another suggestion is, don't start with doctor recommended dosage right away. Start with 1/4th dose and slowly increase every 2-3 days. Good luck, Ragha > > We have had one visit to our DAN doctor, and my daughter was started on cod liver oil, DMG, and Super Nu Thera without A and D while we wait for the initial test results (blood, urine, and stool). Guest guest
B-vitamins caused bad yeast problems to my son when I started them. And Cod liver oil caused yeasts even worse. I had to start it very slowly and treat yeasts all the time. Both DMG and B vitamins tend to cause a lot of yeast. I used TMG, and B50, and both of those caused massive amounts of yeast here when I first started them. >>If this is true, why would our DAN doc start her on Super Nu Thera without knowing the results of testing for yeast??? I don't know, you would have to ask. However, it doesn't matter whether or not there is already yeast overgrowth present, the SNT would increase yeast. Guest guest
Dana, I'm going to tease you a bit: but what DIDN'T cause yeast at your house? SNT was a horrible supplement for us, even at a 1/4 of the recommended dose. Personally, I believe it was the high B6 and not yeast. We used the same SNT without A and D. Negative symptoms (hyper, labile) went away within 48 hours of stopping it. You can definitely start supplements without tests to determine a need, because tests are typically inaccurate in the sense that it can't predict 100% how your child will respond. I found it best to make smart choices and watch carefully for reactions (good, bad and neutral). I would guess 1/2 of the ASD kids do well or do OK with SNT (matches the 1/2 that do well on high B6) so it isn't a poor choice to give it a try from a DAN! doctor's point of view. Good luck finding the best combination for your daughter. I think trial and error is a part of all of our lives these days. Guest guest
My son also didn't do well on Super Nu Thera. Kirkman was not able to tell me the source of the natural " berry " flavors or whatever, which tells me they could be anything. I don't trust the flavors in their supplements. > > > We have had one visit to our DAN doctor, and my daughter was started on cod liver oil, DMG, and Super Nu Thera without A and D while we wait for the initial test results (blood, urine, and stool). Guest guest
Yeah, my son was terrible on SNT too.. either the flavours, or sorbitol or the b6 (although he does ok with p5p with glycine) took him off the edge. Too bad I have a big expensive bottle of it sitting in my cupboard. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Liz Sent: Friday, January 01, 2010 10:34 AM Subject: [ ] Re: B vitamins cause overgrowth of yeast??? Guest guest
My daughter was on supplementation(Vitamins, Minerals, Fish Oil and Probiotics) for 6 months before the start of Chelation. We had also done CDSA test which showed no yeast or bad bacteria. It started only after we started Chelation. Super Nuthera caused problems for us too, but that was because of mega B6. As soon as we switched to Spectrum Complete (regular dose B6), it was completely tolerated. Anyhow, one has to use anti-fungals while doing Chelation. regards, Ragha > > > > > > We have had one visit to our DAN doctor, and my daughter was started on cod liver oil, DMG, and Super Nu Thera without A and D while we wait for the initial test results (blood, urine, and stool). Guest guest
My son also did OK with P5P, which isn't that uncommon if they don't do well on B6 in the pyridoxine form. He can tolerate B6 now in regular doses. I have not tried megadosing again. Guest guest
SNT and most of Kirkman products are available as samples. Guest guest
> Dana, > I'm going to tease you a bit: but what DIDN'T cause yeast at your house? LOL yes it seems pretty much EVERYTHING that my son needed for recovery caused yeast here. The short list of what did NOT cause yeast: biotin, GSE, EFAs, minerals, there are probably a few others that I am not thinking of right now.
