Guest guest
Self-cleaning means you are not adding chemicals to the mix. You are just adding enough heat to carbonize the food residue. If you remove everything, including the racks, the only thing that is being heated is the oven interior coating and the food drippings. Assuming the oven is not new (i.e. the enamel glazing on the interior surfaces of the oven are done outgassing), running a cleaning cycle is no more toxic than baking itself. Guest guest
I only run it when no one will be home all day, with all the windows open. Or at night, with the bedroom doors shut and the windows in the rest of the house open. Our oven in is 12 years old, and it still gives off fumes when I self clean it. I personally cannot stand the smell it gives off Kerrie In a message dated 3/29/2010 8:45:00 A.M. I suppose we can Google that one. Pam (who will run a cleaning cycle today on her 3 yr old oven)
Guest guest
Doesn't a self cleaning oven just clean with intense heat? I never spray anything inside. > > is this toxic? i'm scared about the fumes in the house with my ASD 2 yr. > old and baby. > how soon after can you bake? > > >

Guest guest
The Internet sites are full of info from the manufacturers saying the fumes are dangerous to birds. They make no mention about the age of the oven of the frequency of cleaning. I guess, for me, dangerous to birds means potentially dangerous to us... but they do not feel that way. So, open windows and play outside while the oven is cleaning. I'm not sure I'd leave the house completely for safety reasons (I don't leave appliances running with the house empty). Running at night is a good idea if you can leave windows open in that kitchen area. Guest guest
Oh, yes. It stinks. more than just carbon. I'm sure my oven still off gasses at high heat after 3 years (and probably 6 cleanings).\ Pam > > > > I only run it when no one will be home all day, with all the windows open. > > Or at night, with the bedroom doors shut and the windows in the rest of the > > house open.
