Are you absorbing the vitamin C and folic? My son required carnitine for proper absorption of both of those, and oranges required me to correct his carotene conversion ability. How will I know if I'm absorbing C and folic acid? At my house, B12 and tyrosine needed an insane amount of folic acid at first. How much B12 do you take, and how much folic? Do you know what your carnitine status is? Because you are vegetarian, you might need to add it. The carnitine was DEFINITELY required at my house. Giving vitamin C to my kids without carnitine, caused a major redness under one eye, and bad behavior. Giving B12/folic without carnitine caused hyper, head banging, crying, and bad behavior. Guest guest
I take 1600 mcg of folic acid and 500 mcg of B12. I have no idea what my carnitine status is. " Other natural sources of carnitine include nuts and seeds (e.g., pumpkin, sunflower, sesame), legumes or pulses (beans, peas, lentils, peanuts), vegetables (artichokes, asparagus, beet greens, broccoli, brussels sprouts, collard greens, garlic, parsley, kale), fruits (apricots, bananas), cereals (buckwheat, corn, millet... " We eat lots of all these. Guest guest
> I take 1600 mcg of folic acid and 500 mcg of B12. I have no idea what my carnitine status is. 1600mcg is usually sufficient for most " kids " , altho at my house it would have done nothing. You might try doubling the folic, or conversely doubling the vitamin C, for a week and see if the hangnail condition improves. If not, double the other one. > " Other natural sources of carnitine include nuts and seeds (e.g., pumpkin, sunflower, sesame), legumes or pulses (beans, peas, lentils, peanuts), vegetables (artichokes, asparagus, beet greens, broccoli, brussels sprouts, collard greens, garlic, parsley, kale), fruits (apricots, bananas), cereals (buckwheat, corn, millet... " We eat lots of all these. My son, despite the fact that he has always eaten a ton of meat, required 3000mg 3x per day to address the carnitine requirements of certain nutrients that I had to give him.
