You must have been reading my mind as I just took ds to the ped dentist on Monday and she was supposed to seal his molars but I have a no xrays on his chart and when she came out to tell me I had to have xrays for the sealants I told her No. I would rather his teeth rot out of his mouth. I also questioned her about the sealants because they had a type of sustained release fluoride in them and that put up a red flag for me but the info on the xenoestrogens really flipped me out. Thank God I didn't do it. She was very respecful of my feelings although I could tell she didn't agree with me. She is in Medina, Ohio. She always lets me go back with him. >Suzanne >Ohio > Soooooo funny..........you'd rather have them rot out of his mouth! What did she say? What did her face look like? And the dental sealants have sustained release fluoride in them - my god! Hmm I did not know sealants had flouride.I thought that they took *up* flouride that was put on through risnes and paste.Did not know it was mixed into the plastic. I just ordered a slew of pastes and powers for dd to use in oral cleaning.Hopefully that will help prevent future decay. > Nooooooo.......you are saying you ordered fluoride?????????? Guest guest
Holistic dentists, such as the one my kids see, don't seem to have a too high regard for dental sealants. They can seal out any new decay but they also trap any decay that may have already occurred or just started to occur. Better off just saving your money and keeping a vigilant watch. I hadn't thought of this before and am looking for opinions. I didn't have a cavity until college- then yikes! Shows how diet really effects teeth. She has a good diet and leaving her " vulnerable " to cavities might be a good early warning system, but on the other hand why expose her to the possibility. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Yes. But you have to decide whether the risk might be worth it or not in preventing decay in the molars and the consequent need for GAs, sedation, and fillings/ crowns and so on. Fillings will not last a whole lifetime and the whole process would have to be repeated, as well.
