Guest guest
I take Ambien to help me sleep. It's a prescription sleeping pill. Maybe ask you dr about that. I still fight the fatigue. I have a 4 year old daughter and sometimes I have to put in a movie for her to catch a nap. I work evenings and nights so it gets hard. The question I have right now is that I have more tissue pain than joint pain. They have just put me on plaquenil and I take prednisone also. I am tired all the time, I don't sleep well and generally feel unwell. I am 48 and am not ready to quite working yet, if any of you could give me some insight it would be great. Thanks,Mike --- USFamily.Net - $8.25/mo! -- Highspeed - $19.99/mo! ---
Guest guest
From your description I'm not so sure you have RA. Things that come to mind are fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, either of which might cause more of the symptoms you describe. There are certain sensitive points for a doctor to check for fibromyalgia but diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome is difficult and controversial. I suggest getting a second opinion from a rheumatologist. Prednisone is a strong anti-inflammatory and usually helps quickly to relieve the symptoms of RA at least somewhat. if Prednisone does not help you, that is diagnositic information that tends to rule out RA, but does not rule it out completely. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: michealt1956 Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Tuesday, September 20, 2005 10:30 AM Subject: My First time here Hello, my name is Mike and I have been diagnosied with RA in the last few months. Guest guest
--Does that mean that if the prednisone is helping me with joint pain that indeed I have RA? I know I am trying to deny having this illness. JAnice - In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " Harold Van Tuyl " <hvantuyl@c...> wrote: > From your description I'm not so sure you have RA. Guest guest
If Prednisone helps I think it means that you have inflammation, and that is consistent with RA but also consistent with a lot of other things. The most important thing is to get effective treatment for your disease whatever it is. The next thing is to get an accurate diagnosis to make sure that the treatment is the most effective one. Prednisone is effective against the inflammation but usually does little or nothing to help the cause of the inflammation. You really need to find out what is causing the inflammation and get that treated. Plaquenil is a relatively mild medication that is sometimes effective for RA and also other things. Like most RA medications it usually takes quite a while to become effective so we often wait three months or so before adding another medication or changing to a different medication. Also combinations of RA medicines often work better than either one alone I'm not a doctor or medically trained but just a reasonably well informed fellow sufferer. You need a doctor to tell you what to do next. Tissue pain? When the joints are flaring, the surrounding muscles try to protect the joints and become painful. For me, the start of the RA felt more like muscle cramps, but my legs hurt right down into the bone and I stayed in bed a lot. I didn't know anything about RA and never knew of anyone who had it until I was referred to a Rheumatalogist by my General Practitioner. When my joints are flaring (like right now) I can barely touch anywhere on my left wrist. Hope you feel better! Becky
Guest guest
Mike, Nice to hear from you and am sorry for all you're going through as well. Why not see if your dr will prescribe you something to help you sleep, like Ambien. That works pretty good. See if you can get yourself a hot wax machine. That feels so good when you get aching like that. Hope this helps. ~StarsHutch@... wrote: In a message dated 9/22/2005 8:52:34 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Mike, sorry about your pain, it takes time to figure out how to get RA pain under control. I remember the exhaustion all the time, I swear sometimes that was worse than the pain. Try to remember you will have better days and you won't always suffer all the exhaustion.
