Guest guest
Hi Just my two cents worth ! First, I would recommend that you get on 's Law site. Get their books and go to their semminar. Next, go the Law day at Autismone. Take notes and ask tons of questions at these event. Find out if there are any pro-bono education law lawyers in your area. Learn to tell the difference between autism organization that support parents and those that are really concerned with supporting schools/status quo. Learn what are your legal rights and how to/best techniques to get what you want in the IEP. An IEP is a legal document/process and you will never get the best/right deal for your child without being fully enpowered. In other words, you are his lawyer. Second,I would suggest you think long and hard about what are your son's academic and social deficients. Then consider what is the best way for your son to fill these gaps? Lovass ABA, VB,RDI,NACD, typical curriculum, a combination plan? Once you decided-educate yourself. All these therapies have seminars, workshops, online stuff, , books, etc. Third, I would suggest that you consider having your son repeat kindergarten. One year is not a big deal these days. However, if you do have him to repeat it at the same school- it should be with the IEP you want. You should also closely monitor his education (in a friendly way of course).I like Montessori as a wonderful educational method for kids with autism. Fourth, I would not mention bio-med because they do not care. Their jobs (livihood) depends upon psychological/pedagogical based therapy and remediation. I wish you lots of luck. If all parents had to go through IEPs like we do I truly believe the whole notion of an IEP would be thrown out. Alice
Guest guest
I just want to add that there's a great book out about writing a quality IEP. It's written specifically about ASD kids. The book is How is your IEP Measuring Up. ________________________________ From: hatteralice <hatteralice@...> Sent: Sat, March 20, 2010 10:39:18 PM Subject: [ ] RE: Angry over IEP  Hi Just my two cents worth !
