I don't know of many doctors that accept insurance any more because of their

limitations on treatment. Be prepared to meet your max out of pocket and be

prepared to file your own claims.

Also, if you are planning a career change or anything that will cause a change

in insurance and you will not have a pre-existing conditions waiver, wait to

treat or treat her out of pocket.

Since she behaves well in school, she may be having sensory issues, i.e. sensory

integration dysfunction or sensory processing disorder. The biomedical

suggestions given by other can help, but you may also want to consult with an

occupational therapist to have her tested there (which would be covered by

insurance if she is diagnosed with it) for some short-term solutions.

Does she over-react to any sorts of sensory things at home ... tags in shirts,

hates water on face, will not play in sand or with finger paints, limited food

choices, cries loudly with unexpected noises, craves certain spinning or jumping

activities, and any sort of repetitive behaviors at home that she chooses to do?

The fact that she does well at school as long as there is routine and then melts

down at home is my clue. How does she do on weekends when there is no school?

Are the meltdowns mostly in the afternoon? If the house was quiet and no other

kids around, would she play quietly and be happy in the A.M. only to later

meltdown in the afternoon? (An important test)

Have you run a DDI hair test and applied counting rules? When was her most

recent vaccine? What's her diet like? Consider any toxins in the environment

at home...any smokers in the household (even if they don't smoke in the house it

lingers in hair, on clothes, etc)? perfume-wearers?

My daughter was so similar to yours - I feel for you! We suffered years of some

very difficult times in our household and did a trial of medications, without

much success. We found the biomedical route at around age 7, and have been

making gains ever since. I would agree with getting a DDI hair analysis, also I

would recommend allergy testing - food intolerances can cause so many issues.
