Guest guest
hi....Sassy Lou you seem to be really well informed so maybe you can help me. I am in more pain than my Motrin can handle and am looking forward to a THR after the holidays..A new doctor gave me a prescription for a drug called TRAMADOL or ULTRECET. I have looked it up on the computer and it is used for arthritis treatment but am not sure of the addictive quality of the med. I have had much success with acpuncture and the pain at night is difficult to deal with ....can you or anyone else give any suggestions? Thank you
Guest guest
Lodine patches are also available apply to painful site.. >>>Topical generally means.... surface only and most of the time.... things like bengay etc. only create another pain to keep your mind off the orginal source. If it's arthritis... I don't know that a patch would be of much help~ I'd go with the Celebrex or an anti~inflammatory drug... but then that's me. Guest guest
Insurance won't pay for Celebrex unless I'm 65 >>> At 35 they won't approve it for me with a CMN saying "it's a noted drug with additional health hazards".... Grrrrrrr~ well asprin kills some... and works miracles for others... no one ever considered taking it off the market~ It's a CHOICE available... Celebrex or Vioxx is no different (*we I should say SHOULDN'T BE any different)! I think it's just crap to get outta paying the cost... insurance carriers want high premiums to maintain coverage and to pay out cheapest possible choice available on the market REGARDLESS of what is or isn't "best" for that patient / customer. Business is business I suppose... but shamie shamie.... is all I have to say! I don't see how they sleep at night~
Guest guest
hi....Sassy Lou you seem to be really well informed >>> I'm very well informed NOW but I can't say that I was prior to my THR.... I had limited information because most of my time was spent in bed unable to research matters and what lil time I did access the net... I got mostly terrific turn out stories & pretty much based my hopes for THR on hearing all the "your young~ don't sweat it hype~ you'll do great". RUDE AWAKENING and true shame but in my heartaches I've choose to maintain the boards over the years with the hopes of helping others NOT to repeat my mistake! Funny how when I started questioning "am I the only one" people started outta the woodwork with bad this or bad that experiences. I just want my voice heard so that another realizes.... it's your choice and your life! Failing to research, investigate and question EVERY DETAIL PRIOR to surgery.... or assuming ANY out come is a huge mistake. Plus I know already having had 2 revisions.... chances are great that another total replacement is around my corner for me.... next one WON'T BE like the first! My words aren't meant to scare another out of their decision nor to I try to "suggest" a best for you solution~ I hope only to help another go into the process with OPEN EYES and WELL AWARE of what is what! I wish you the best of luck with your THR... I think you've made a wise choice with time lines.... I've had June, July and Jan surgeries.... least after holidays your less stressed and your "down time" for recovering is during the colder months that everyone usually stays indoors anyways. maybe you can help me....drug called TRAMADOL or ULTRECET...am not sure of the addictive quality of the med. >>> I took it for a lil while.... but tore my stomache up and didn't change a thing least for me. So I returned to Celebrex.... which actually does help with my arthritis. Any hoots.... here's a few good drug information sites which I use that may assist you which you might not yet have seen. tramadol Side Effects, Interactions and Information - Drugs.com http://tramadol.drugs.com Ultracet Side Effects, and Drug Interactions - Tramadol hydrochloride / Acetaminophen - RxList Monographs http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/ultracet_ad.htm I have had much success with acpuncture and the pain at night is difficult to deal with .... >>> I'm a firm believer in "do what works for you". Fact is what's right for one is not right for all and if the acpuncture helps you then I would certainly stick with it..... some relief is better then none. Before surgery I used my heating pad alot and rotated ice with my pain meds. As to the nights relief now... well... I could use some help on that subject myself. I don't sleep well at all between me being limited on the time I can tolerate sleeping on my operated side and my back troubles... usually I'm up & down all night. Sleep 15 mintues... up for an hour.... sleep 2 hrs. up for 30 minutes.... 15 minutes up & 15 mintues asleep. I never know what's what because it don't really have a pattern except to say I know if I've had a LONG DAY.... it'll be a LONG exhausting up & down night too. Any hoots... hope something helped ya

Guest guest
HAVE YOU TRIED TAKING TAKING PAIN MEDS @ BEDTIME ? >>> I have but on a really bad day for me my meds just kinda "knock the bite off" so to speak they don't actually "fix for total relief" for lack of better words to describe it. I don't want something strong enough to knock me plum out because I've got two kids schedules to keep up with and run after.... but I have thought seriously about seeing my family doc to get something to just help me rest peacefully through the night. Guest guest
Yes Sassy, I remember the first time I said everything wasn't perfect with me. It seemed I had let the team down by not having a perfect hip. It is great that now people do remind people all surgery carries risks. With the first hip I didn't want to know. I just wanted the pain to stop, and it did. That first hip was magic. The revision is not so magic at all. I must admit though I would have had the first hip done when I did even with the knowledge I have now. Might not have lifted all the heavy weights, and moved office furniture by myself though. Guest guest
Thanks. My OS was very happy with my progress. Guest guest
Dear All, My name is Mercy Hyde. I am 52 and am facing a hip replacement in January. I am hoping to have a hip resurfacing. I started using Ultracet a year ago and am using Hydrocodone now. I have developed a physical dependence on the latter, but do not have an addictive personality. I try to take less, not more. (My father is an addictionologist and I am a therapist and have worked in drug and alcohol addiction.) I get great relief from these medications which I take with Arthotec, an older anti-inflammatory. The good news about opiates is that they do not damage other organs, they are a relatively " clean " drug. I can stay active and maintain general health, mobility, and continue to work on muscular abilities that one loses with arthritis. I have more to say about this and would be happy to talk to anyone about it. There is a good article in the August (or September?) Condaleeza Rice issue of AARP about pain management. Guest guest
Hi Susie, I had L. knee repair surgery..last year & R. hip replacement in May.(R. thumb joint replacement 7 years ago) I did get Bursitis in the new hip area.Got relief from Celebrex.and ice applied for about 20 minutes several times a day..You can get shots for it.. From experience the pain you have in the leg may very well be coming from you spine..or knee,and/ or the way you walk to compensate for the pain. Yes, had this kind of pain, big time, you may need PT. and/or it could be a vascular problem. Tell you doc. Taking arthritis meds helps but will not make the problem go away, only short term relief. As for the scaring try massaging that area with coco butter with Vita E cream a couple of time a day, little circles on the scarring, for a full minute or so,it takes time but it definitely helps. When did you have replacement done? What has you doc and/or PT told you? I would not hesitate to have the knee done.. it will give you a better quality of life. Good luck..
