Guest guest
Thanks for the response. And glad he is doing better. I think we may try it this summer. > > After three weeks on the patch my younger son has improved some. I think he would be improving more, but we have to get the Vitamin D supplementation out of his diet. They don't want you to give more than 400IU a day. We figured out the extra calcium problem by adding it into his pancakes in the morning. Calcium doesn't cook out apparently. We also overcame him removing the patch by applying it at night. I think he is getting used to it. His ATEC score improved by 17 points in three weeks. > TJ > > > > > ________________________________ > From: <erinpruitt@...> > > Sent: Tue, March 30, 2010 1:11:22 PM > Subject: [ ] Respen A - TJ > >  > TJ, any update on the Respen-A? > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Hi, I sat in on a 2 hour webinar last night with Fred Starr to learn about the Respen-A patch. We are starting it tomorrow. Anyway, one of the things that was mentioned was about kids that may become hyper and or aggressive. There are things you can do to get rid of these symptoms. If they become hyper you can cut the patch in half and use half dose. If they become aggressive it is because the child is not getting good absorption. You may need to change the type of calcium that you are using or even the form of the calcium. There is powder, liquid and capsules. There is a mom whose son is doing extremely well and has been using it for one year. She spoke last night and it has taken her about a year of tweaking things to get it just right. So it seems you have to have patience and a willingness to tweak things. You can call the pharmacy and tell them what is going on if your child is have unpleasant reaction. You can also email Dr. Starr or have your physician email or call him. He is very open and willing to help. Anyway, for those of you who are going to try it good luck. Guest guest
Our boy got hyper and his stims increased as well. We cut the patch in half for starters, that helped. You also need to get 2000mg of calcium in them at breakfast. We were having trouble with this until I looked up calcium and cooking and found that it does not cook out. Lucky for us my boy eats GFCF pancakes every morning. We just mix in the calcium with the pancake mix. The Respen-A causes blood levels of calcium to drop, so it needs to be offset. Low blood calcium side affects are irritability, and a few others - basically not feeling good. TJ ________________________________ From: " nvibbott@...
