I am getting SSI, answer is no. Having an CI is not a cure, they look at UNAIDED hearing, so therefore, if you were or are getting SSI or SSDI, that will not stop you. However, I suggest you let them know so there no surprise. Lee
Guest guest
Lenny, Not unless you decide to go back to work. Alice if a person qualifies for disability because of a severe hearing loss in both ears and THEN has a cochlear implant, will it have any impact on the disability payments???? thanks........Lenny
Guest guest
I have not seen it happen to anyone, Lenny. That is not to say that people who have gotten implants have not made their way back into the workforce on their own, because many, many CI users feel that their lives are back together and want to go back to work. Guest guest
Lenny, It was after getting my CI that I found out that deaf people are entitled to half fare on the subway. They didn't ask about my Ci and I didn't tell. I don't know about how it works as far as other disability payment issues. Guest guest
Lenny, Even on disability one can go to work and make up to a certain amount of money each month There is now a back to work program for those wishing to work.. They will help you figure out exactly how many hours you can work without losing any benefits, help out with any schooling one may desire to get and other things as well. I've never seen anyone cut from disability for this reason yet...Remember.. without the ci, you are still deaf and I think they'd have a tough time actually cutting someone for this reason. It can be difficult finding employment even with a ci. Cheers and have a great weekend Silly MI In , " Alice " <justagram@c...> wrote: > I have not seen it happen to anyone, Lenny. Guest guest
YES,, I WOULD STRONGLY recommend getting an attorney who specializes ONLY in SSDI... I was turned down 3 times over 2 years to get it,, and when I did,, they re-evaluated me at 18 months,, and tried to take it away,, they , the fed government who evaluates this stuff, are very tricky and will try to get you to go to THEIR doc who's only job is to prove you are not disabled.. PLEASE get an attorney,, it will be worth it, as most of them take a percentage of what you get as back pay if you win... Its almost impossible to get SSDI for Hep C... macsfarm22 <bclmac@...> wrote: I would like more info. I searched the files...Sharon did you get SSdisabily? Guest guest
Yes, I did. I got it because I was morbidly obese, have bad varicose veins and have to have my feet up, have IBS and need to leave my post to go to the bathroom, have uncontrolled sleep urges and depression. I told him (the judge) that some days I had/have trouble getting out of bed and to deal with people and hold a conversation was beyond me. My last career was as a home care aide to home bound seniors and being deeply depressed was not a good theng. I also have a friend on the east coast who is/was a school bus driver and could not function with deep depression. If you can show that, as I could from medical records, the court will give it to you just for that. Sharonmacsfarm22 <bclmac@...> wrote: I would like more info. Guest guest
I had to go to their docs, psych and med. The med doc was DIRTY and so was his office. When court time came, it was mentioned that I had a HISTORY of asthma and depression, but it had gone over several docs paperwork, so was accepted. They are JERKS, their docs. Guest guest
Yep, they are,, when they tried to send me to "their " doc over an hour's drive away from where I live, I called our local ssdi attorney. He told me NOT to go to see their doc as they have NO responsibility to read any pertinent medical history of mine,, and they could easily say that they thought I had something completely different which would have caused me to lose my ssdi and have to start over.. I know that getting ssdi is easier for depression,, but I dont know anyone who got it for primary Hepc,, and I even had cirrhosis,, and they still turned me down... I would always get an attorney,, they know what is acceptible.. I didnt know this but "because" of my age and because I have never done a desk type of job,, that they cannot force me to take a desk job now because I turned 50 while still being on disability.. thank God cuz I cant stay in any one position for very long,, and I have extreme discomfort most of the time..and have to take liquid morphine around the clock to be able to even get out of bed.. thank God not all end up as disabled as I did after treatment.. most dont,, Sharon Crosby <blubirdxoxo@...> wrote: I had to go to their docs, psych and med. Guest guest
I did all the legwork for mine too, to save legal costs. My attorney just stepped in at the court appearance. The whole thing, with the denials from them and appeals from me, took 2 years. I got a hefty check for retro pay, tho and now have what I have forever. I have a couple of other ailments, won't go into it, but all together it was enough to get the OK.
