Guest guest
You could try some slippery elm and a ton of probiotics and see if that helps.. also a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil is an option (if she is willing to take it). Also, last resort you can do an at home enema, which is what they would probably do at a doc's anyways. Just be careful when picking one out at the store.. some have EDTA in them and I would probably cautiously avoid them. Good Luck! Guest guest
These are all good suggestions. We once had a similar situation with our son - he did not go for three days, and nothing worked, mag, c, fiber etc., someone suggested a natural laxative Sennakot. This worked within a matter of an hour or two for us. We got it at the local drug store. Guest guest
I've heard alovera juice is good for constipation, but push water, water, water. Epson salt bath seemed to help my guy. We figured out my sons constipation issues was from his probiotics. But just about anything taking could be the cause. We also purchased an enema product at Target. Just the sensation and moments after insert in rectum, everything started to come. Sorry, don't have the product in the house to give you the name. Guest guest
I had huge issues myself with constipation. It was not fun. -------------- ENEMA OPTION If you can do an enema with her, just get a few lemons -- squeeze the juice of one lemon in 4 cups of warm water. (You can do up to 3 lemons with 2 quarts of water, but she is small.) This will quickly balance the pH of the colon and can be used once a week. Alternate with coffee enemas once a week and it will help immensely. After a month, she should be doing really well and not need them any more. The lemon juice will give her immediate relief -- basically by the time she has even 1 to 2 cups of the water in her colon, she will immediately release it all. I can email a pdf copy of the enema section from one of my school books if you want. The coffee and liver saved my gallbladder, and it was the only way I was able to really get adequate B vitamins and minerals (adding wheatgrass juice) for some time. ----------------- NON ENEMA OPTION If enemas are not an option, then you need to make sure you have SEA SALT and take one tablespoon of sea salt to one liter of luke-warm, room temperature water. Drink it as quickly as possible. Usually, you will have a bowel movement within 15 minutes. It is much less painful (taste-wise) to use this method than Epsom Salt. ------------------ Slow-going option - use Fletcher's of Castoria. It has some senna in it and is usually available at Walgreens, Wal-Mart and most pharmacies. It works really well and you may want to pick this up for a daily maintenance until you get her through the hump and find out what the issue is. They have a root beer flavor too, but the regular is pretty yummy. ------------------ The only caveat with Fletcher's is that it will be very painful for her if she is that congested, which is why I recommended the lemon juice enema. The enema is going to dislodge and break up some of the mass so that it isn't a large chunk. Hopefully, this way, she won't fissure. Good luck. You can call me if you have questions, I will be here until a spinal appt and you can feel free to email me. I am happy to help. Guest guest
I would try Magnesium Citrate. You can buy a bottle at the drug store for about $2. After a few hours it will clean her out. Just plan to stay home for the day as she will be in the bathroom for a few hours. It may take more than one use to really clear the blockage. > > > You could try some slippery elm and a ton of probiotics and see if that > > helps.. also a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil is an option (if she is > > willing to take it). > > > > Also, last resort you can do an at home enema, which is what they would > > probably do at a doc's anyways. Guest guest
For our son - who still has constipation but it used to be a lot worse - when he would go 3 days without pooping, we would give him: Aloe Vera juice - Our guy would drink 2-3 ounces in a glass of juice. Putting ice in it helped with the taste. A strong epsom salts bath. For our guy, this meant a whole package of salts. Very warm (as hot as he was comfortable with) water, and I would sit in the bathroom and read to him or whatever to encourage him to stay in for a while. We used Oxypowder to manage constipation (not the best remedy but it worked for us). Oxypowder can also be used as a colon cleanse. Pretty strong stuff. If you try it, start low, with one cap, and see how she tolerates it. It took 2 1/2 caps to move things along for our son. He definitely went 4 days without pooping once or twice, but usually it was at the end of the 3rd day that he went, with our interventions. Guest guest
I agree with most of these recommendations. Lots and lots of water at least 1 hour away from food. Also use some laxative fiber mix with water such as " Clearly Fiber " or Metamucil(Psyllium Husk). Aloe Vera is also good, but it heals the gut slowly. Lots of sleep also helps digestion process. If the child is a poor sleeper try to use Melatonin to regulate sleep. As a lost resort, you can use Miralax over the counter laxative. Just follow the label instructions. Miralax can be habit forming. Be sure to use only for emergencies like this. HTH, Ragha > > I've heard alovera juice is good for constipation, but push water, water, water. Guest guest
We use a glycerin suppository when our youngest hasn't gone in two days. Are these the suppositories you are using? They work very quickly, within 10-20 minutes. Guest guest
If your girl is not an infant, and if she is not vomiting, and if you can feel hard stool in the rectal vault, try a mineral oil enema (Fleet makes these, as well as other companies), held for half an hour or more to allow softening of the stool, then followed by a regular phospho-soda enema. Soap suds enema may also work but is more uncomfortable. Mineral oil by mouth will eventually work but often takes 4-5 days when there is significant impaction. I would not recommend any other laxatives by mouth until the rectal vault is clear. If she is vomiting you need to take her to the doctor. A third option, disagreeable though it is, is digital disimpaction. Guest guest
My son has had the WORST constipation since the age of 2....for 5 years! You really should use an enema to get it out of her immediately, but follow up with Magnesium Citrate. We buy it in the form of a drink called Natural Calm...raspberry lemon flavor...works wonders. We give it every day to our boys...one to help seizure control and the other one for constipation. If you give her this every day, she will go regularly. Hope that helps, Rhonda > > my girl is super constipated. we tried suppositories, milk of magnesia, plain magnesium capsules, mineral oil. i can feel the really hard stool inside of her. she did one teeny pellet in the toilet and it was like cemment. this has been 3 full days. is there any harm in waiting one more day to see what happens or would you take her to the doctor? just want some advice. thanks >

Guest guest
Fleet enemas worked very well for us. Unless this is a one time occurence, figuring out underlying causes will be the harder part. Our bad, chronic constipation seemed to go away after we treated for pinworms (saw them in his pull-up). Magnesium citrate worked well, too. Capsules. 300 mgs/day. We had gotten to the point of using Fleet enemas about once a month. It was not fun at all to watch him go through that process. What came out of him is best described as a softball. Wow. He would often not go for 3-4 days. This takes me back. I'm glad to be done. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Try a Vitamin C flush (works great in my family) and follow up with a different probiotic. I tell you that the best probiotic for us todate is one called InLiven by MiVitality. My daughter was in very bad shape and pooped little round pebbles. She now has perfectly formed bowels. Vitamin C flush: use a powder-based Vitamin C (we use Perque's Potent-C-Guard-Powder, but you can use another one with similar ingredient). You would take 1 measuring scoop and mix it with 4 ounces of water and take it every 20 minutes until the person/child poops. I don't know who old your child is. Each measuring scoop is 1.5g of Vit C. The key is that this product (or ones similar) have magnesium, zinc, potassium and calcium. So all those will aid in the evacuation process. See this document for more information. Their dosage is a bit more aggressive. If you have a holistic doctor, consult with him/her. http://www.perque.com/pdfs/Pt_Ascorbate_Slush_FIN.pdf In-Liven: I have tried many many probiotics in the past 4 years, and this is by far the best one for my son (and daughter and me). I don't know if you daughter has food sensitivities, so check the ingredient. It is a combination of probiotics and herbs. Best of luck. .
